No, there are 2 radiators on the side of the gearbox under the cowl and they were connected by a single radiator top.

Maybe it had a head start from the inside. I've pulled valve covers from operational engines that were terribly rusted on the inside from condensation.

Thank you! It is a 2 door hardtop with original 327 and 4 speed. It has 29,536 miles on it. And other than the factory tach missing everything else that I have found so far has been original. Even the distributor, alternator, starter, etc. are all original Delco-Remy parts from when the car was built in ‘63. Just makes me wonder why it was parked, and neglected for so many years. It was practically new...

There is something about Studebaker's rusting in fields with weeds up to their axles that is fascinating to me. I wish I had learned decades ago how to take a field find junk car and restore to driving status. Every time I see a field find car my first thought is "No Way!!", but my second thought is "Pull that sucker out, media blast it, prime it, and start on the engine and interior!!" This is how I fantasize about cars.

Would like to know why this caddy was modified in this way to begin with.

That old Caddy was used as a starter car for harness racing,it paces the horses around the track, the big wings fold out for them to line up,they have a "rolling" start, they line up behind the gate and he gets them up to speed then he will pull away from them befor they get to the start line and they race around the track, its a big sport here where i live. harvey

Local gas company has demolished an unsafe building along the Kiskimentas river, this Buick was in the brush. Had to share this sitting/rotting Buick when I saw another beautifully done 48 a few days ago on HAMB.
