Projects 1962 Falcon hot rod

Here's Globalwest front shocks. They're a bit spendy, but I'm sure they are worth it.

Since you're installing all new components, you should look into the Shelby drop. You lower the upper arms an inch. This drops the front about a half inch and improves the suspension geometry. I did it on my 65 Mustang and then on my 62 Falcon wagon.

 

Second the suggestion on the Shelby drop (unless your Global West setup already has altered suspension geometry). I did it to my "Shelbyized" '62 Ranchero a long time ago and really liked the result. I've found KYBs to be harsh and short lived and would steer clear of them. Bilstein and Koni both make great products that would serve you well.

 

The Globalwest suspension drops the upper control arms and changes the geometry. Has a 3 degree offset I believe. Cool video on what they did;

Now is a great time to make the radiator support removable! cut the top out and replace with 2 X 3 angle with a couple of quick release pins.
With it open like that you can swap engines EZ. (my buddy claims with the header ON!) Real time saver and can be made to look stock.
Wish I had done it to my Mustang.
Roller spring perches are a great addition to handling and a Monte Carlo bar too.

Already done that buddy! I cut out the tops of the radiator support. The radiator slips in and out easy. Plus it make a little more room for the fan.

Don't forget the rattle can of black paint for the radiator.

 

I would read reviews for the Vikings before you purchase.

I've decided on these front shocks for the Falcon. They are coilovers using Varishocks. Mustang 64-66, Ford/Mercury 60-77 - Front Bolt-On QS2 Coil-Over, Double Adjustable. Bought them from Chris Alston's Chassisworks.

Futuras are cool cars. I personally liked the '63 Futura's roofline a little better as it looked like the '64 Falcon's roof. I built a '63 Futura gasser with 464 BBC and Super T10 4 speed. Used a later 8.8" Ford axle, with 3.73 posi out back. Sold it just under 2 yrs. ago to finance another car build.

 

Not too much paint; it could impede air flow.

 

My parents bought a 1963 Futura for my newly-married brother and trailered it from Northern California to Clovis, NM, where my brother was stationed at Cannon AFB, in 1969. It was a very nice car, white/w brown interior, 6-cyl/w auto. My parents paid $600 for the car. My brother had nothing nice to say about it, and he eventually bought a new Toyota Corona. As a teenager, I had thoughts of acquiring the Falcon and putting a Boss 302 in it; but it was not to be.
A few years later, I was briefly engaged to a girl, who had a 62 Falcon 2-door post/w 6-cyl. and 3-on-the-tree. She loved that car and did her own wrenching. She preferred it to the Futura. Personally, I thought it was pretty ratty, but it was all she could afford.
It's been 45 years, now; I wonder if she still has it.

 

I really like hearing about the old Falcon's people used too own. Sorry there hasn't been any updates lately. I've been working alot. I just need a day off to get some things done! I'm still waiting on some backordered parts to arrive. In the meantime I found a really neat '63 hood on Craigslist. The owner was using it as wall art. I also attached a picture of his awesome '63 Sprint!

 

Love what you’re doing and looking forward to the suspension being fitted. I recently bought a 64 2 door hardtop futura and have been reading up on different suspensions systems to use. I look forward to see how you progress.

The front Varishock Coilovers arrived today! I now have everything to put the front suspension together.

 

Hello all! Sorry it has been awhile, but life happens. Here's what I've gotten done today. Using the template from Global West I drilled out 9/16" holes for the "Shelby drop." I then installed the Global West upper control arms. Then installed the lower control arms. (The lower control arms are temporary, I'm going to be putting Global West tubular lower control arms on soon.) Then I assembled the Chris Alston's Chassiworks Varishock coilovers. Installed them with the support brace. Enjoy the pictures!

Okay, today I finished installing the Global West adjustable strut bars and sway bar. I also had to flip the coilover towers with the support brace. This allows me to easily remove the support brace for engine install / removal. Next, I'm installing 5 lug disc brakes up front. Enjoy the pictures.

Today I laid out the front disc brake kit. It looks pretty straight foward.
