I know these art pieces are not HAMB friendly, but it's the newest work I have done. I hope the mods agree that they are in the spirit of people who love cool rides and of course the Christmas spirit.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and please be safe out there ...........

I'm blown away with that first picture with Santa and the Model T touring. My 1926 Alberta plate looks just like that with the 5 digits - I checked and am relieved that my numbers are not the same.

    Hello,

My brother and I were always good little kids. So, Christmas was always a great time to be with our family, throughout the years. As we got older, the time spent on Christmas morning was getting shorter and shorter. The surf was calling and we were anxious to get out there, knowing people would still be lounging around the tree until noon time. There were a few other hard core surfers in the water on those holiday mornings. We usually scored fairly empty waves for hours.

When my brother was in the recovery stage from his 3rd degree burns, he was looking for the next big thing. Drag racing seemed to be on its way out. Now, desert motorcycle racing and surfing were gaining momentum for what we are/were doing for the foreseeable future.

Yes, there will be the finishing college scenes for both of us, but surfing seemed like the easiest way and most relaxing. Plus, our parents could say nothing about the dangers of surfing and the beach. They both grew up near the ocean and loved taking both of the young sons to the beach anytime.

So, my brother thought he would like to get a surf transportation vehicle that no one else had at the time. In So Cal, the trend was going to enclosed vans, VW, Ford and others that were found. Sure, they looked like the plumber’s cars or similar looking delivery vans like the Helm’s Bakery trucks.

So, he mentioned several woody station wagons like the Model T and Model A versions. Then those were tossed out after knowing they are suspect for being open and not lockable. Then some of the different panel trucks got thrown into the mix. They provided plenty of opportunities to make a hot rod version with sleeping/cooking areas in the back.

But, his idea popped up from our dad’s first Buick sedan that we came to like, while living in those funky trailers in 1946. Our dad saved up to buy his first family car and drove the family almost the whole length of inland California to get to that huge Long Beach trailer park with tiny trailers.

So, his tribute was going to be a 40-41 Buick of some kind. We saw some funeral home, odd looking, window station wagon style, Buick models, but he said our mom would go nuts seeing that black modified station wagon come rolling into our backyard. Something about death and delivery don’t go together.

So, when he saw photos of larger woody wagons that were made by Buick, he said that was the one. Large enough to store a slide away panel cooking arrangement in the back, when the door was down and still have room to put our longboards in the back window area. When the sliding floor panel with the cooking arrangement went back inside, then the back area was large enough for a couple of big teenagers to have a nice resting/sleeping area. Curtains for window privacy would work.

The 1940 Buick 4 door woody station wagon was a little over our tight budget, so that got chucked. But, those design talks that we had as late 20-30s adults always brought up our early surf oriented projects. The 40-41 Buick station wagon woody was one of them.

It would (pun intended) have been a classic to roll up in our driveway, just to see the look on our dad's face.

Glad you liked it ....my Facebook buddy is in a club and they took the original photo. I asked if I could make it into a Christmas image and they gave me permission. They then asked if they could use the image for the club Christmas card and of course I gave them permission.

I appreciate it, thank you ............

Thank you dick .......best of the holidays and new year for you and your family.

Awhile back I asked permission from Jack (hotrodjack33) to use some of his old artwork on one of my lens. It turned out pretty good. Thanks Jack. Have a great holiday, Gary
