Laughed out loud at your final remark! Actually, spit my coffee on my keyboard! I guess that sure is one reason to get in the car quickly!

Kinda thinking this as well... In fact, I wonder if that was the builder's influence? When you consider how popular and cutting edge the Mustang was at the time, like the Telecaster or Elvis in the Fifties, maybe the builder was copying the soon to be classic?

The basic idea of either long bumper, or split and long and narrow tail lamps with some type of decorative filler plate/trim.

  9. Sheez'. Am hoping none of those pieces make it onto the car.

Geoff Hacker has 2 of those cars .. at his Fiberglass Farm. Positive you could pull a mold with his help.

Not my car, nor my money .. but hard to argue with what it looked like previously.

Good luck in whatever you choose, but damn' .. .. choose wisely. Such an exquisite, and natural, original shape. Bring it back, if you can. Please.

I think you'll have a difficult time blending in any Corvette parts to the S4. The S4 fender line works better for the car than anything 'Vette. If you haven't already, I'd ask Geoff what he'd suggest. He has quite a network of period kit body connections and is likely to know of something.

Thanks for the links! Also, I completely agree regarding the body! I can only hope and pray that it is all still there. I Will def document all in detail as it arrives and I get things underway and I get going!

So very odd regarding the door measurements and placement from the factory? [IMG]

Agree! Mostly just thinking outloud. My true hope is that the core of the rear (fins) is/are still intact.

@porkchop4464 those quarters look a bit like Studebaker 53-62 quarters. You can buy new fiberglass Studebaker quarters so that may be an option or at least a starting point.

64451.jpg Heres a pic of one. There was also a top part used after 54 that would make it look even closer.b

Hmm... I see what you mean. Thought the other pic was yours. Opps... Guys are right, think the guy was trying to emulate the Avanti, or later mid-:>late 60s sporty cars. If all else fails in getting a splash mold from Geoff, then maybe you could get some contours n measurements (?), get some pink foam, layer it up, n carve away to the shape you want. A little messy, but not hard. Do use a contour gauge to get each side close. Use a thin layer of epoxy on the foam - won't melt it, then use polyester to build up thickness required. Or latex paint over the foam may stop the 'glass from melting it. Or cover the male mold w/2 crisscrossing layers of masking tape. I found out 'glass doesn't stick that well to masking tape, but long enough to get what you want. This thing is saveable. As far as getting it, since it's so light, rent a 1way trailer from there to home? Road Trip! Just plan your driving times well watching the weather carefully, or go a kinda longish way around via a southern route. Still a fun trip, if you don't try to do it in 3 days. Or maybe a HAMB'r would get it into a storage facility for you until mid spring? Good luck.

If I'm not mistaken, the body came without any outline for a door cut, you had to do it yourself. Now that you mention it, at least two of the door cuts above are not parallel to the ground or vertical. It might look better with the rear suspension down a couple of inches.

This is a really cute car. As far as the door length goes, you could cut them back, from the leading edge of the door down close to the leading edge of the rear wheelwell, looking very much like the early tbird. I'd just recut the side window to make it one piece, & if you're careful w/the location of the cut, window would roll down all the way. Plus, you'd straighten out the door cut lines so's they'd look correct.

I've seen a lot of these roadsters and quasi sports cars over years and almost all of them look dumb. But this one is awesome. Looking forward to progress pics

NRGWIZARD! I was seriously thinking the same exact thing. But... Man... I will have to do some fiberglass floor and engine bay work first before I even consider dropping even one Sawzall blade line down any point of that body?

I have no fiberglass experience whatsoever, so I intend on experimenting quite a bit with the trunk, floor pans, engine bay, dashboard, and center column before I even think about body mods and ideas.

I was also thinking something about the idea of half doors, meaning, making the entire door a lot more squat and then kind of stepping over and into the tub to get in (just thoughts).

Anyways! Great News! I hope! Fingers crossed!

They are saying they can send a truck over Xmas Eve! The seller said he will be around to help them! I basically explained to him and the shipper if this 4th shipping deal fails, I am voiding the sale through the CC as it seems the gods are fighting this one.

I should think this got all on board as I m sure the shippers don't want to lose 2200 bucks and the seller doesn't want to lose 2500 and wants it off his property (so... yes I have 5 grand in it as a roller!). They explained that if they pick it up on Christmas Eve, the car will be here b4 the New Year!

Fate will spin her wheel. Fingers crossed!

Totally agree; I don't like the two-tone break-up at all as well.

Holy Cow! Thank you for the name! WOW! Now did he do any work for Benz? I had a 63 MCB coupe and man, it looked a lot like this car. Shit! That is Dean Martin, I think, right?

Problem w/half-doors, is they really look like shit. & seriously mess up the cars' lines. Not to mention you lose side weather protection & your sideglass or curtains will be stupid-funky. Hope the deal goes thru w/o anymore drama.
Glass isn't hard to do, just kinda messy, & a little different approach. On this car ---- it's bragging rights. :D .

Agree, if the cuts aren't correct and dimensionally correct, the entire project is ruined. God bless my wife is a Photoshop Guru! I will run ideas through PS first. Trust me. I will be posting a lot.
