hi..I thought I´d post a couple of pics of the job I´m on at the moment. First of all a bit of background. I´m in spain..near Barcelona..Ive been playing with cars for ages now along with the steel furniture but this year especially I´ve been busy with a client who pays the bills and makes building a car easier!!. so after finishing the rot on his patina caddy (1950 convertible), he pestered me to build him a rod. now the raw materials for a decent rod are difficult to find in spain, but after looking at various old citroen in france and other local wrecks we stumbled across a solid sedan shell..it was quickly bought and a chassis and wings were found.(miraculously )last week. now I´m a fan of a good sedan but the client only wants a coupe (dream car etc)..so had to get the grinder out.

so i realise that there are loads of subtle differences between the sedan and the coupe (window moldings, rear side window shape etc) but we´ll have to live with those at the moment as the major problem i have is creating the rear quarters out of nothing.
started with a frame work to get the curved looking ok, and then cladding the parts in (where i can) the old henry J steel. at present this is as far as I´ve got, one side is starting to look passable. the engine is going to be a big old caddy v8 (from the other car) so later I´ll be asking all sorts of advice about positioning of it , reinforcement etc. I hope this is not considered too much as "Heracy" ..as literally all i´m trying to do is keep the client happy and the bills low (mostly the importation taxes from the states..which are a big wedge here)..heres some more pix..cheers sig

    mikie likes it...
like the using what is out there...
my only experience is with USA and Canadian bodies...
you listed it as a 1930...
but beware, the cowl looks to be 1929 Murray Ford fordor...
they looked like '30-'31 fords but were a '29 0nly styling sample...
they uses a '29 Murray only hood, a '28-'29 grill, lights...
'28-'29 gastank that mounted from below...
    3 piece firewall...
dash, garnish, w/s frame or visor may be different...
i have a couple pair of door garnish if you need them bad enough or just want pix PM me...
    hope it helps

That's coming out surprisingly well. I'd work a little more on that roof line, try to eliminate that peak that sits between the two sections. Good job man! Keep us posted on your progress please.

I like it. This should be the fate of all four door sedans.

The '29 Murrays had a very interesting inner door opener... check one out if you have it...
on the doors and quarter window the radius where the horizontal [armrest] meets the vertical
is much sharper on the Murrays than the Fords...
the B jam on the door is wider in the rear than front...
    Fords were the same...
Murrays were what i called wooden cars as most of the structural interior was made from wood...
some were blind [no quarter windows]. if you can find one of those not only would it make a one of a kind 3 window coupe but would be much easier to build... [no garnish] enough of my $0.02.

the second choice was a blind 4 foor..down south..but the seller was a bit of a pirate so we decided no to...but i researched them then and it said they were rarer....the one we´ve got has sharper angles on the windows for sure..and wooden structure inside yes..also a big gap at the b pillar ...also the top horizontal at the side windows is slightly arched..does that mean anything to you?..very cool info boss xx

todays great discovery is that a beetle roof has an excellent (slightly) compound curve for the arse end of the coupe..its a bit more "bubble butt" than the original i think but i like it IMG_20201208_185000.jpg

    i see a stock '28-'29 hood...
the only one that fits is murray, not sure about briggs ?
Yes Murray's had an arch front to rear top edge of the door... otherwise they would fit a '30 coupe...
they had a beefy B pillar,
i have a pair in good condition,
but i would make mine from rectangular tube steel... if building a Fordor i would use the pillars... otherwise no... pic doesn't show it but both front and rear edges are the same... DSCN6353.JPG DSCN6349.JPG

I am not sure how much help this is but I have been making my own deck lid out of sheet steel. There are four sides and a centre. I used MDF as templates to trace around the sheet metal. The idea is to weld the four sides together, flip it upside down over the center section and trace around it, cut it out and weld it in. 17131D3E-B30D-4880-BC6C-847E9BF8D22D.jpeg

That Peugeot is a super slippery vehicle looking very much like the Mopar airflows, like the front, hood, widow lines etc. I would surmise that rounds up a total like overall even without a rear view, rally on!

Great project! Yes it is a 1929, have to get back to my Steelback. The one you passed on has something different with the rear section and top than mine. Need to get back to it and renew the details. Briggs & Murray do match in some bits but totally different in others. Bob
