Unless it was in Norway then it would have been a Chevy in a fjord.

back in ‘78 that was all that was available.
I believe that at that time there were only 3 ‘57 sports coupes in NZ. Yes you read that correctly, only THREE !
A lot more now, ........and a few less in the US...…….:)

Walking out on the SF Golden Gate bridge, 1966, at sunset.

    Hello,

On our early photographic road trips up to the San Francisco Bay Area, we always saw something different, despite driving up the same coastline, but, staying in a different hotel/cabins during our trips. We could explore the whole coast many times over, still find something interesting to see and photograph, besides cars/motorcycles.

Every time I see this photo in our photo archives, I get a huge chill. Not only was it an excellent sunset day, but after crossing the bridge in our El Camino to have dinner in Sausalito, the fog rolled in and made everything a dull grey. If you have seen San Francisco fog, then you know that I mean.

So far, we have had great luck with the fog and weather when we have driven numerous times to San Francisco and beyond, going north up the coast. It must be the ocean gods were following us to make sure the scenery was pristine. Or, it might be that when I was a toddler, I told my mom that, “I was George, from San Francisco,” when asked who I was.

Perhaps, upon returning down the coast on the same trip in 1966, it was totally clear until just outside of Goleta, CA. The coastal fog and rain was so thick that our fast moving wipers did nothing to clear the windshield. We thought we were still in San Francisco as the fog was so thick. We got off of the coastal freeway and hit the side streets until we could see buildings. Luckily a new Holiday Inn was open and we got a great upstairs room and fabulous in-room dinner to calm down from the foggy/rainy ordeal.

This is a favorite image that always makes me smile, forever with those memories. Recently (2019), when we went to stay at the newly designed Ocean/Surf influenced, Kimpton Goodland Resort in Goleta, it was the rebuilt and modernized old Holiday Inn from the “way back machine.”

  20. Any picture of Mr. Armstrong always brightens my day. I love this man. He always brings me joy.
