Projects Big daddy's 1960 El Camino

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Lloyd's paint & glass, Nov 18, 2020.

  1. There was a thread on here a while back about "if you could have any car" and i posted that my all time favorite car is the 59/60 Chevrolet. What started that was at age 14ish i was deer hunting on a friend's grandparents farm and there was probably 100 cars back behind the barn. One that built a fire under my ass was a 59 El Camino. I had never seen one until that. I fell in love with the car and asked my buddies about it. He told me the who owned it and i called him. He told me i could have it and a parts car for $800. Being a poor kid, that might as well been a million bucks! I did end up buying a 59 Rambler out of that bunch of cars for $60 :D but from that day on I've loved those cars, especially the wagons and El Caminos. The tail fins, tailgate, dash cluster just make me happy! So..... looking through the classifieds here i find a 60 El Camino, call the guy up and had a great conversation with a wonderful gentleman. After a couple of days of pictures being sent, the deposit is paid, and in a couple of weeks, I'll be hooking up the trailer and taking a road trip to Tulsa! Been about 37 years, but i got my 60 Chevy ;) plans haven't started yet, i know the rust repair that has to be done, but I'm thinking straight axle, small block, 4 speed  hang with me y'all, I'm excited! :D thanks again @buffords40ford Has goin.jpg Hh sh n bf.jpg

  2. Man, we're going to have to start a 1960 El Camino HAMB Club.

  7. Congratulations getting one of you dream cars. I have had both 59 and 60 El Caminos, they were both a lot of fun.

Congrats Lloyd. They do make great customs, but I'm diggin the straight axle idea, like that orange one above. That is sweet!

Good on you, at first I thought you’d gone back to the one you saw as a kid. Look what’s happened, join the HAMB, be here a year, find your dream car!

Technically it has a bed so it`s kind of a truck. The El Camino that is.

Yeah Lloyd, I can kinda see where "Big Daddy" might apply:p:eek:

Incidentally, I'd be more than happy to take the '57 Wagon off your hands (extremely cheap of course) to help you finance the '60 Elco build...what are friends for ?:p

I'm happy for you, I can relate to how you must feel, 37 years dreaming about an El Camino, took me 50 to get the Hupmobile. That body looks solid, I can see it black with American 5 spokes. Bob
