Hot Rods Zips water pump Alt mount

Who’s using a Zips water pump riser?
What are you using for alternator adjuster bracket?
I’ve got a intake with a front fill oil tube, does the one in there instructions ( which isn’t available anymore) interfer with the oil fill tube?
Any help especially pictures would be appreciated. Thanks Gary

 

I'm using a Zip's but my intake manifold doesn't have a front oil fill tube. You may have to fabricate what you need for your combo.

 

Where did you get you alt bracket? Pictures?

or do you have newer style with bosses attached?

 

I cut the bosses off and used a GM 70 vette style alternator bracket. Had to modify my oil fill tube to clear the riser as well

I’ve got a 32 Ford and not sure if that will stay inside the hood sides

I was thinking about using the Allen Grove low mount but it says you need 11” of clearance Measuring from the center of crank bolt and I’ve got about 111/8” (That’ll be tight) plus not sure it will clear the steering box

 

For sure my set up won't fit inside a hood. Sorry. I started by trying to use the Zips alternator mount but it was so inline with the water pump pulley centre point I didn't think the belt would stay tight.

 

I have a Zip's riser on my old Deuce sedan and I have always used this type of early Chevy alternator bracket, and it doesn't interfere with the hood.

I recently added air and the configuration has changed.

 

I'm running AC on my 32, so it was convenient to just use an adjustment bar from the top of the alternator over to the top of the AC compressor.

 

This fits on mine. Not sure what the bracket is off of. It is a GM bracket.
Not much adjustment, so fan belt selection is critical.

Anybody know what Dennis D’s adjustment bracket is off of?

 

Fortunately I own a Bridgeport vertical mill, and was able to machine out a block of aluminum into an H shaped bracket to adapt the mount on the alternator to the Zip's mount.
The adjuster strap is one I picked up at a swap meet.

Do you have a photo of engine compartment? OP has 32 and wants to run a zips with a hood, alternator. He may have air also like you.

 

I ran one on my ‘32 Tudor with A/C and a hood a hood. No issues. I think I used an old Chevy piece like HRP posted. I may have an instruction sheet. If I can find it I’ll post it. I think it had some part numbers on it.

Like you probably answer.........mine.
I'm not using the Zips unit but because I'm using a full size Ford Motorsports alternator and have pinched frame rails I had to get creative with my low mount setup.
Note notched and boxed frame rail.


Full hood sides too.

 

My mounting location is similar to "48stude" in that it is mounted inboard of valve cover as opposed to outboard. Been on the car for decades........But I am not using the front filler tube. Hope this helps.........

This is on a 31 chevy and I run full hood.

 

I’ve got one in my ‘32 with hood sides. The front filler tube was mitred and rewelded for clearance. I’m running a chromed generator off of a 1962 Corvette. I’ve got a photo of the mitre around somewhere. I’ll try to find it and add it.

 

I also had a Zips on my '32 pickup and I had air also, I made a couple of pieces using aluminum tubing and taped it right hand on one end and left hand on the other and used spherical rod ends to adjust the tension on the belts between the compressor and alternator, the other one was used to hold the air conditioner compressor in position. HRP

 

Interesting. I have seen this pump riser in catalogs but not seen pictures on an engine. Anyone use one of these with a timing cover with a Hilborn pump drive? This could be a useful addition for my project if it will allow the use of the Hilborn pump without abelt drive.

 

Maybe photo's will help you determine if it will work or not.

 

Looks like room for day's for a pump drive.

Other than being 'non traditional' is there any down size to using a H2o pump riser?

 

Like someone above said I had to pie cut and reweld my filler tube to clear w my zips. Not all manifolds have the filler tube on the same side or angle. It's a hot rod, sometimes you have to improvise.
