I don't care if you upholster it with dirty diapers, it's cool as hell, and I like every version.
Build it inside out, and upside down, I don't give a shit, but post it here, and quit fucking around.

I don’t care how many times the thread started, every time I hear the word “Telstar” I hear the music to that damn song.

That is such a great tune. Good name for this car too.

I made them from 1/2 inch tubing...drew the shape I wanted on the ground, and then used a hand pipe bender to duplicate the shape...then used 18 ga. sheetmetal to skin them.

More progress......Began putting in the dash. I used a 56 Ford dash, but sectioned it a couple inches because it was too tall...actually bolted up directly to the shoebox dash mounting points, which was a pleasant surprise. Started mating the 58 Edsel instrument cluster to the Ford dash...steering wheel is 61 Plymouth. Just tacked at this point.

I thought it might be helpful to make a mock up of the windshield shape to help me visualize how things will look once I get the actual windshield in place.....planning to use a wraparound boat windshield from a late 50s/early 60s boat. ^xxxa121144720_10213458052525816_5857408189135281295_o.jpg ^xxxa121095932_10213458053925851_569897042730754193_o.jpg ^xxxa121232096_10213458054925876_9050511411844680889_o.jpg ^xxxa120930259_10213458056045904_5099587058283483207_o.jpg

Are you saying that you welded two long (kind of flat) panels, one on each side of the tubing?

A little more progress.....A good friend knew I needed a donor piece of metal to fill the area behind the cockpit...he gave me this '64 mercury deck lid. As soon as i saw it, I knew it would work perfectly....and it DID! Couldn't have had a better fit.

  21. Great project, can't wait to see it done. Totally vintage custom reliving the golden era.

The title of your thread and car made me think of a custom model I made as a teen in the 60s. Some one gave me a plastic model of the Russian Sputnik satellite. I couldn't resist turning it into a custom car I of course title Sputnik.

Well at least it is warmer in Texas than it is here in the frozen north.

I am more of a hotrod/gasser/1320 guy but this thread caught my eye and I am glad I opened it.....this car is going to be totally killer! Love your vision and tenacity! This will no doubt be a show stopper (I think it already is) Go-man go!

I love the "Flash Gordon-y" look. As Texas is an open carry state, you should keep a ray gun in it.
