Checking in from Cheyoming. Not much going on around here. I disassembled the steering box in my roadster and hope to get it rebuilt and put back in soon. I am also going to install a mitchell OD unit on a 30 sedan this month. I will post along progress as I get that job finished. I am also going to install some tube type shocks on this sedan. The car has a 4" drop axle and a different rear spring so I dont think that any of the bolt on shock kits will work. What has everyone been using for shocks and mounts on a full fendered sedan? I imagine I will end up building some sort of mounts for them. some ideas will help me get an idea of what I will need to do.

Well, I haven't made any progress, but my machinist has.

The Model T block has been aligned bored with the new steel main caps for the larger Model A crank and new anchor points made for the babbitt pouring.

I'm starting to think I may have to, or make an adjustable restrictor for one of the radiator hoses we do sometimes see temps up to °42c (°108f) here during summer

Burl, I realize you are early in the project. Are you planning to run a hood? From what I remember from the top iron discussion is your body is a '22. The radiator shell you have is for at least a '24 or newer because of the nickel finish. Problem is they made the radiator taller about '24 so a standard hood may not fit. Without a hood I would keep the tall radiator for more cooling.

no hood on this one will cut the shell down to match the height of the cowl and run a cut down 32 radiator like i have in my 28 keeps the banger plenty cool

  24. Here we go again. Had some white metal exodus from my favourite Diamond B after twelve years of enthusiastic driving. I don't have the spare coins to get it converted to shell bearings so I dragged out a spare engine to fit in the interim. I'd run it previously for a year or so and knew it didn't knock or overheat but needed boring and the valve train sorting.

However - stripped it down and found this crack around one of the cam follower bosses.

    IMG_1026.jpg

So took it off and had the crack laser welded.
    IMG_1044.JPG
Seems to have fixed it so had it decked and bored 60 thou. Tightened up all the caps to 2 thou bearing clearance and popped in a Stipe cam and a new set of valves and springs. Not quite the chuck in the spare engine plan I originally had. Fingers crossed.

Laser welding works really well.No real haz and minimal distorsion we use it for tooling repair all the time
