If you keep this up there won't be any left to buy. I get beat out (on ebay) every time I bid on one.
I'm done , for awhile, with ebay now. This 40 Ford showed up couple days ago , it was my last purchase.....besides that ebay shut me down , temporarily, one night . I was bidding on 3 different kits and they were all in there final minutes of the auction...and I won all 3, I make it a point to pay right away but when I went to check out they kept coming up with excuses, like reset your account info and several other things...I tryed everything ,called my card holder they said nothing is wrong , plenty of money available, I finally got through to someone on ebay, a real person, they told me a bunch of crap, I ended up paying for one of the items with a money order . After waiting 24 hours like they told me , I tried checking out again ..samething , wouldn't go through...called them again ..we had words or I did anyways, got put on the line withh management ..I expressed my views on the matter and they finally told me that they did it..temporarily shut me down, a safety thing they can do if they think a new customer account is buying too much too fast ...its to protect them and keep them , the customer, out of trouble.? I then expressed my views and opinion and they took the temporary hold off . So I made a couple more purchases, with no problem and I'm now giving it a rest for awhile. My desk top shop is getting a bit backed up anyways. I ended up with I think 14 vintage kits and parts kits, had fun ..now getting them put together is actually going good , these old kits are not as advanced, less parts , not much small details to do, they are molded in color so I haven't even painted any of the bodies yet, just polish them out and what painting I have done has been with a brush..all is good because my eyes and unsteady hands at times keeps me from the fine detailing I once did...so its enjoyable again like when was a kid. Thanks for telling your story, interesting and aggravating as the circumstances can be. I'd venture to say you probably beat me out on at least a couple, as I really went crazy the last few weeks with watch lists and bids. I thought I might even have gotten hip to sniping some poor schnook in the last 20 seconds. Instead, I'm the one getting sniped. The frustration isn't worth the hassle. I'm not a master modeler and have no interest in the kits being sold these days. I don't care about super detailed dashboards or the tedious job of putting together front suspensions that are realistic. I no longer purchase photo etched parts. I could keep on building the oh so simple looking Monogram kits if I could get my grubby mitts on them. I'm not going to pay some insaniac megabucks for something that, honestly, shouldn't be more than a couple. But, my loss. Have fun with your kits. I'll be watching for pics.
I too do not want to build those super detailed kits any more and going back to those simple AMT and Monograms.
I did get sniped out in the final seconds on a couple of them , then there was a couple that I got carried away bidding on and then as its getting down to the end and Im winning, then it hits me ...that lm in a bit deeper than I really wanted to be...and then hope that someone will jump in and out bid me in the final seconds...and they don't. Then there was one that I thought I would try to jump in and snatch it away from a guy that seemed to be wanting this one kit pretty bad ...well it was down to the last 5 minutes and I thought I would start playing with this guy...he bid , then I went and jumped in with a bid that would be just a few cents over his bid and continue till the end, and I didn't even really want the item he was bidding on, then I went in for the kill...I hit the wrong button and a bid of $2500 went in...oh shit...luckily it went in as my max amount , and I was able to get in and cancel the bid ,you have to give ebay a good reason for your cancelation for them to except it, mean while the guy had made a counter bid that was higher than my pre-";`/ up bid and he won on a $26.50 bid....ya...that would have devastated my Studebaker champion Hot Rod funds. @1933_willys_77 . Glad it worked out, at least partially. I'm not aware of how exact or what your plans are for the model, I'd like to add though for a windshield or other "glass", a wonderful source is just a simple blister package from a cheap shop of sorts. Some plastic available is so clear and easy to cut, super thin too! Looks fabulous on model cars and trucks. Just sayin', hope you don't mind. Glues easily too. Mike..
Weekend Update; Motor mounts and support bar for the idler pulley, an oil filter added as well as a chute backplate. I thought an aluminum valley cover might be nice too. Also, further along with the rear end triangulation, here the upper rods, lowers are also done. Nuts and bolts are ordered, as jamb nuts are missing yet for the rods. The motor sits now perfectly, firewall to motor block is good, the alignment to the 3rd member sits. Big step completed today, I'm happy. Mike..
Picked up a box of diecast and plastic parts from a friend which included a few vintage plastic cars. A little clean up and some repair needed to give them a second life.
UPDATE; the idler pulley brass bracket was bothering me, plus already having trouble mounting the pulley....no room. So a new one was made up. I got a real plan with measurements from Roger Lee, so this one is now perfect scale, looks right, and the pulley fits better. Here the old brass unit, Here the revised piece, aluminum plate with stainless steel tube spacers; I think the idler pulley is too large with this aftermarket resin motor, I'll make a slimmer more elegant unit with aluminum tube and flanges attached. Should look great on the motor. Mike..
Ooopps... I forgot one, I was going over my purchase list and something wasn't adding up, started digging through my shipment boxes and found one that was never opened...and this was inside..glad I didn't burn them. Its a original kit, oddly it had been fully assembled and the only thing that had been painted was the silver on all trim parts, and was very well done. The 3 in 1 customizing kits are my favorite, this one didn't come with any of the extra and customizing parts. The box is in very nice condition . I'm going to leave this one as is. Who ever built it must of played with it or just rolled it around..alot..because both rear wheel wells on the back side of the body are deeply rubbed, melted grooves from the tires rubbing on the body. Sorry for the premature model posting...but I couldn't hold off any more, my desk top shop is filling up so I had to make some room.. I got the Black Widow truck all back together, turned out ok, this is a original 1960 release, non motorized version, it does have the provisions for the motor but it doesn't come with the motor or all the wiring and other parts to motorize it..it does come with the eyelet mounts for the teather line to pass through. I also did some extra paint work to brighten it up a little, red on the under sides of the fenders, also the wheel edges .and got all the glue tracks rubbed out,. I had to replace the windshield and frame and the radiator and headlight assemblies because of excessive gluing, I used new parts from a 2010 re-release dated truck that I got for parts. Now on to the next one. Sent from my SM-T387V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
UPDATE on the FED build. Clutch can and other small things. The resin clutch can I had was OK, just a little puny. Here the new one, scale this time. Also, the steering is all done, except the delta handles, this later on. Also, a new firewall/motor plate, this one is more scale as well. The can still needs 2 bolted revision covers and the linkage cross support, still a bit to do with this unit. Mike..
UPDATE; Clutch can bolts and woes. The can is attached to the motor plate and the bolt supply was drained. Meantime ordered. Meantime, I don't like the silver dull paint. Dumped in a jar with brake fluid, this comes out.... Tamiya Clear Red on the shiny brass will allow a beautiful anodized look. I like. Mike..
Here’s a build a did a year ago, AMT’s ‘49 Ford Gasser with a tri-carb Caddie V-8. I remember my older brother building the original release of this kit like 58 years ago when it was first issued (1962). He built his as a gasser too but with the blower option. I’m really impressed with how well the mold tooling has held up for this kit (this build used the Round 2 AMT “Gas Man” release from 2016). I intended to depict a typical early gasser at Lions Drags in the early 60’s. Other than some silvering of the Slixx decals (which I’ve learned how to avoid since this build), I’m happy with the final look. Hope you all like it. Happy turkey day everyone! John
New stuff... The car has a seat. This model has a brass seat, previous models had aluminum ones. Brass was much more difficult, the bends and radius issues are better made in a softer material, brass is not soft. Anyways, the seat is soldered on and moving forward with this project. I like it. Upholstery comes along later. Next up is a steering handle.....then on to the rear brakes. Mike..

These characters will be placed in my Lincoln Futura and I want to outfit them with 1:25 sunglasses. I have attempted to cut a pair from thin black plastic with some success but am asking if anyone knows of any on the market and would photo etch be an option? Doll house and doll glasses go to only 1:12 Thanks.
