Unless of course he spent some time up Flagstaff way. Lots of the white stuff up there including a mountain range.

OK I gotta say this...... Jims car is about the ugliest car I have ever seen. But he knows how to drive the hell out of it.

Hi Squirrel. I just saw this post. Let's see. Far away from home. Cold weather. Bad rear bearing. Sounds familiar. Back in 2017 my son and I were on the way from NC to SEMA and lost a rear carrier bearing in Amarillo. I posted on the HAMB and you hooked us up with your Drag Week friends who helped us out. I'll never forget that. I just wish I could have returned the favor. Glad you're on your way. Good luck. Have fun. Be safe.

I would imagine it has to do with a rod bearing going out like he said in one of his last posts

I think the rod bearing went out in a competing car, not his.

RT-66 crosses northern Arizona, roughly follows I-40 from east to west. Some parts of today's run go through mountains and have to be driven on I-40. Some interesting segments of RT-66 through Flagstaff, Williams, Kingman and Oatman, AZ

EDIT: How could I forget Winslow, AZ? NOTE: Arizona is a big-ass state, Holbrook, AZ is the closest RT-66 town to Jim's home. It is almost 325 miles

I understand the 215 was an option for those early Tempests, a rare one at that. I'm glad it's performing well for him (so far) as I'm working on my 215 right now.

I'm heading to LA. The engine is out of a buick, badly adapted to fit.

I agree. I'm thinkin' that Jim can fix more problems on the side of the road with a screwdriver, a pair of pliers, and a coat hanger than I can fix in an 1800 s.f. shop with all the hand tools and many power/stationary tools a fella could ever ask for.

^^^^^ Read that. Guess once one has checked in at the end of the day it's pretty much do as you want. As Jim just said, "I'm heading to LA."

looks like the 62 Olds is still in, I guess its just making enough noise to make them worry. I had a light rod knock in two LeMons Rally cars I drove...the Corvair, and the Hudson. Both made the several thousand mile trips without coming unglued. Just need to keep oil in them.

I had a '62 Olds 394 in my '55 Chevy Carryall, the rod knock turned out to be a worn thrust surface on the main bearing allowing the crank to move back and forth. One new main bearing, a pan gasket and some oil and she was good to go for a bunch more miles. Definitely one of the best vehicles I ever owned.

Squirrel, only you could have fun in a car that ugly. DO you have a tinfoil hat to wear when driving?
