I installed a power gen on my 53 with a merc flathead. It installed great and charges amazing! But now when I give the motor some rpm it makes a grinding/squeaking noise. Almost as if the starters trying to engage. So at first I figured it was the solenoid since it was the original 6v and the car is converted to 12. I bought a solenoid for a 56 ford. And it still does it! Any ideas on what it can be?

Disconnect the fan belt(s) and see what happens.

I disconnected the wire off the alt and the problem goes away. Do ik it has something to do with the actual charging wiring

  5. Some how it's feeding back and making the solenoid try to engage. Look at instructions and see if it says anything about adding a diode to stop feed back. Maybe give then a call Monday?

I had someone else suggest the diode aswell. But I will give them a call Monday. Thanks for the response!

Yes, it sounds like a diode/stator problem since it goes away when you disconnected the wire. If you know anyone with a scope you could check the output pattern.

Figured it out for anyone who cares..... changed the coil and the problem went away and it charged fine.
