Hi guys, I have a dilemma to choose a good combination of tires for my 49 Chevy. What I want : Bias ply (at worst Bias Look Radial) on 15" wheels with wide white walls, now I have 6.70/15 ones. For the front I think it's the good size for my project but at rear, it's a little too tall (it rubs in wheel arch, raised arch wheels). I checked a lot on Coker Tires but not sure what could be the best choice. I also would like to keep the same sidewall style and width, at least visually. I saw the BF Goodrich - 2 5/8 Inch Whitewall - 600-15, it seems to have the ideal proportions but it's not the most beautiful and the 670-15 (for the front) doesn't have the same sidewall style. I also saw the Firestone - 2 3/4 Inch Whitewall - 640-15 but I think it will remains a little too tall and also not the same sidewall that the 670-15. Do you think smaller (600-15 or 640-15) will be ugly if I put same 4 tires ? Do you have return (and maybe pics) of kustom with smaller rear tires ? The fender skirt will hide almost all the tire. Thanks for your returns.
I assume your car is on air bags? If so, does it matter that the tire touches the inner wheelhouse when deflated? You probably won't or can't drive it at that height anyhow so why not just put the 6.70's on it all around. If not, my 40 ford has 5.90 15 bfg silvertowns on the front.... that is a pretty tiny tire though....
Yes, I'm on air bags but I would like to gain 1" more, I made a lot of job for that And to be honest, the wheel arches are raised but the tire also touches the rear since I moved the rearend with the new fender skirt design 5.90 are really tinny yes, I'm afraid that will be too narrow to cruise safely
I would try to put the same tire on all 4 wheels. 670-15 is a cool looking tire. Your car is not small so it needs adequate tires. Too small looks stupid if you don't build a lowrider. A smaller rear tire than front tire also does not sound like a great solution. If the wheel arch is too small for a tire that fits your car you might have a problem, IMHO.
You should look into Diamond Backs. These are the Auburn Deluxe Series.More expensive than Coker, but my opinion, they are a better tire. Sent from my SM-A102U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Yes, I agree with you concerning the too small tires, that's why I would like to keep 6.70 in front. In rear, I would like too but not possible... my arches are upraised to the maximum and I really want to drop the car at maximum Of course, I will try to keep a wide tread width Thanks, I checked and I'm interested... I will think about that If it's was possible yes. For front, sure it's what I want... but for rear the top of the fender is at 28" from the ground and the car need to go down about 1"1/2 so I have about 26" maximum for my tire and the 670-15 is 28.58"
I have 6.70 15 BF Goodrich Silvertown on my Merc and they look good. They also measure about 27.2 (69 cm). Sent from my Moto G (5S) using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
If you want to drag the frame, get out the cutting torch and raise the fenders. Look at the math for what you want to do. You can’t very well cut off the tops of your tires. 6.70-15 is a good tire size for your car.
