The pictures aren't very good, but here's a mechanical flathead setup a friend of mine just finished putting together.

Sorry I don't have a lot of that info. I do have a shot of a logo on the side of his trailer. And am sure he said he lived in South Dakota. I wish I would have got more info. He had a wealth of info on those motors and heads. If I remember right that truck was running in the 11s. Sounded so bad assed wish I would have videoed the run. Ron

It appears to be a late model (292) Chevy with a Sissel-Duggan head and injection. Available new from Sissel.

Question: is running a mechanical hillborn setup in any way streetable, or more for a track only?

Looking into running it on a single seater lakerster style car on a 59A block.

Ive only see hillborn setups on drag cars and such. Probably for a reason.

If you have fuel right at the barrel valve by putting the fuel shut off right before it, open the shut off, open the throttle foot feed, crank the engine a few seconds, the fuel will enter the intake like an accelerator pump. Then close the foot feed turn on the ignition and hit the started button. This is an acquired skill.

I understand they can converted to EFI which would make driveability a whole bunch better.

  26. Please help me understand this, these systems use a high pressure fuel pump to deliver fuel to a control valve that is connected to the throttle pedal? Then, from the control valve, fuel goes to each stack? Are there throttle butterflies in each stack? If this is the case, they are also controlled by the same linkage as the control valve? How much pressure is delivered by the fuel pump? Does this pump also act as the delivery pump from the tank, or does it use a separate pump for this. Sorry for all of the questions, I’ve never been around this type of injection. Being a diesel mechanic, I know all about that type of injection, but this is all new for me. Thanks for the help.

There are two valves which control the fuel. The first valve is a supply shut off valve which typically is mounted on top of the metering distribution block. Within the distribution block is another valve which is connected to the accelerator and the butterflies. This valve is used to meter the fuel to the distribution block and controls the lean/rich fuel mixture.

They are converted to injectors like new units Bosch used a system that used a O2 sensor to control the spill valve. I have often wondered why someone would have used this in a mod for constant flow units. Units like can be tuned to to idle well and work for full throttle. Its part throttle load sensing that they fall down on with a wide sensing O2 sensor they could be very streetable and still keep the look. We have alternators that look like generators and electronic ignitons that looks like a mag.
