Corvette got a bad case of Covid, let it sit in showroom too long. Didn't have avgas in tank, my bad. IMG_20201012_124653828.jpg IMG_20201012_135345152.jpg

I got the front fenders, running boards and splash aprons mounted on my '31 frame to finish taking some more ripples out. It's getting a satin/beater paint job so it will likely still have some warts when it gets paint. At least it sorta resembles what an A kinda looks like.o_O

  5. Decided I better fit the gauge panel bezel to my dash before I get to far along. The bezel is made out of some extra '36 hood spears. My buddy decided it was too thin for him to tig weld; so I made some corner inserts and JB welded it together. Buffed up the SS so it was pretty. Modified the heads on some machine screws to hook inside and drilled some holes in the '41 dash to secure it. Made some brackets to hang the trans cooler under the front radiator baffle, little blasting, sanding, and paint and I can get that installed. IMG_20201012_183115_4.jpeg IMG_20201012_182931_3.jpeg

Cleaned the 62-64 valley cover for my Y to add a PCV system. Paint remover for the metal and wire brushes for the trap and tube. Engine primer and a Ford red finish. A7D8FB43-5A74-4F16-BD61-8A68BCDE25E0.jpeg 7062320B-49F7-4FA9-9176-6BD31A348719.jpeg

  8. Mounted the trans cooler. Welded a couple pin holes shut in the hood of my buddy's Rambler. Finished welding an offset in my oil fill tube.

Fabbed up a neutral safety switch on my shifter, I still have to mount the trans brake switch . I am undecided where I will put it either on the shifter or the left side of the steering wheel. Actually a park safety switch. studebaker build 003.JPG studebaker build 004.JPG

Minor carb adjustments, trying to get the fast idle adjusted better. Will see how it works tomorrow after it cools down overnight.

I tried to get all the manual trans parts out of a 55 Ford wagon at the junkyard but it sits in a low area and I think water has been up over the trans and the input shaft is stuck to the clutch disc so I gave up and will look for another that is easier to get out. I only spent a couple hours cutting the floor out and cutting the driveshaft since the rear end was sunk so far in the mud.

Took the 40 Chevy out for a little drive. Ran like crap until I worked the shitty gas out of the carb. Finally cleared up and ran fine after a while. It sure doesn't take long for this modern gas to turn to crap.

Brought my 41 to a swap meet 90 miles away. not good weather, which kept it small, so a bunch of lookers, but no offers.
Did buy an Advance Adapter new in the box to put a small block Ford in a Jeep or Scout. And a really neat old hood that I don't know what fits.

  21. Slow weekend; blocked out the '47s dash and put down the final coat (I hope) of primer surfacer. Started to sand the pitting out of a couple pieces to get ready for the chrome shop; don't know if the seat parts will make it. Also, smoothed out and painted all the brackets for the A/C parts I made last week of course I grabbed the semi-gloss instead of shiny and had to redo them.

I had to be "on-call" all 5-days this week for Jury Duty in downtown Los Angeles. Just waiting to see if my number comes up. It never did. I'm a free man for at least another year.

Live in Nor-Cal, recently acquired a '63 Chevy II Nova SS - has standard white license plates - would like original black/yellow plates - but, nice matching pairs are in the hundreds of dollars - plus, there is a added annual use fee to run - so, for now was going to use the non-personalized "new" black plates offered by State - after going to register at AAA office, and two trips to DMV was informed that license plates are not being made now - this work is done by State Inmates - due to Covid 19 spreading in prisons - told to try again next year - will keep eye out for super deal on originals - oh well

Bought a 700R TV/ Throttle Bracket from Jegs. It was too short so I had to lengthen it. Trying to understand how they came up with those dimensions! 20201025_125353.jpeg 20201025_133719.jpeg 20201025_183924.jpeg

Spent the day at El Mirage for the First Meet since China virus stopped the world. Not a good day. Dusted out so bad that I could not see which has never happened in 45 years of my running on the dry lake bed. Actually got it stopped and didn’t hit anything and still on the course. Officials thanked me for doing the right thing. There well always be another day. Meet was shortened for high winds and not all 53 entrants we able to make a pass. 6195E095-C7F0-4816-8E67-D8C094DC8335.jpeg

Road trip. About 900 miles between yesterday and today. Took 30 from Chicago to Philadelphia, then crossed NJ to my beach cottage. Got lots of honks, waves, thumbs up, and random pictures from passing cars. I guess not everyone will road trip a 37 Chevy cross county in the fall.

Some cleanup, notes on things that need fixing in the spring.

Tomorrow it’s 900 miles the other way, going home. Probably going to take 76, though. The back roads were nice, and fun, but added a bunch of hours to the trip, and I gotta work on Wednesday.

Had a weird cooling problem on the way out here. It’s about 40F out. Coasting downhill in the mountains, I had no heat because the engine temp would drop to just a bit over 100F. Lots of cool airflow.
