Hey-it’s got “eyes” now! More assembly today. Tires are just rollers-well see how everything settles in before we pick final tire sizes.
We have some issues with body and door alignment. Everything is “tweaked” so a lot of adjustment is still needed.
I think the old original vinyl will look cool going back into the car...

Photos not loading but I’m excited to see its eyes!

not unusual for them to need shims under the A pillar body mounts to get the doors aligned

Original dash surround (chromed) and original gauges ( except the temp gauge-had to replace that with a new one, and the Sun Tach is not operable -still trying to connect with a gauge specialist). This car was restored with the idea of keeping as much of the original car intact as possible. I will say with confidence that we kept it at least 90% original. H.A.M.B. friendly? I would say so...

I love how this has turned out and I suspect you are pleased to get it finished up following the way most of us recommended keeping it as it was when your Dad bought it!

Man this is great. Running boards and interior and you’ll be crackling those pipes in some crisp fall air in no time!

I still recommend https://williamsons.com/services for your tach conversion. Not a good source for batteries, but he can convert to 12v and have it hidden behind the tach head in the cup or in a dummy Sun transmitter box mounted on the firewall.

Question, HAMBers: we’re looking for the right replacement material to cover the running boards. It used to have ribbed rubber mat material. What is considered period correct for a ‘60’s build, or were there all kinds of materials used in the old days? There are some I’ve seen that are more “cross-hatched” rubber mat. Sources? Thanks

I know a friend used some pyramid shaped Rubber mats in his 32 that would give the cross hatched look.

I want to say he got it threw McMaster car? But I’m sure if you putting in “pyramid rubber mat” it’s available all over.

  17. Riff, can't remember if your running boards are Model A or '32? There is all kinds of reproduction stuff available for both, but they are not interchangeable.

Well, we almost have a finished car! Took it for it’s maiden drive yesterday. A little rough around the edges but fun as hell. Sat on a folded up blanket on the plywood seat base. Interior and exhaust are the big items left, and experimenting with different wheels and tires. A lot of small details to call it “finished” ( if that’s even achievable). Can’t wait to take it to Ft. Sam Houston cemetery to show my Dad! More to come...

It’s an ugly little thing, but it has character. Not really a “hot rod” - more like a “luke-warm rod”!

Stogy-yes, trying out different sizes before I go buy the final tires. Smaller, skinnier, lower profile for fronts...
