Hot Rods 1932 Ford Phaetons

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HOTRODPRIMER, Oct 6, 2020.

  1. I have always liked these cars and someday if the stars ever align in my favor I would like to build one.

Post any photo's you may have taken or seen at a show.

The '32 Phaeton that tripped my trigger was at the Lokar open house several years ago. HRP

HRP the car you posted is really sharp. I think I have always loved Phaeton's because they remind me of those old Cagney gangster movies we watched as kids - always have a bad guy with a tommy gun shooting out of a big open car with that long top.

I wonder how many of those bodies were rolled off the frame in a cow pasture somewhere in favor of a coupe or roadster body.

  16. I would think not as many as the 4 door sedans, today they are desirable. HRP

  18. Anyone know if the front seat can be moved back, I had to move the seat in both my 32 mordoors. HRP

Here are a couple of pictures of Jerry’s phaeton that I took when it debut’d at the GoodGuys event in Des Moines a few years ago. It was a long term project that was built in his shop. (The Wood Road Garage) using all genuine Henry steel. The engine is a nailhead Buick.
Jerry does not post on this forum but I will forward a link so he can see this thread.

Next time you look at the Kilberg phaeton notice where the front seat is. Jerry moved it back a total of 5-6”.
I can shoot some photos of it the next time I stop at his shop.

But years ago, they were just another four door car, not as sporty as a coupe or roadster. I figure many a young man at the time hot rodder, if they had access to a coupe or roadster body made the switch, from family car to sporty car. What we look at as desirable today was once thought of as common or in some cases, junk.

Dick Scritchfield's 1932 Phaeton is a good example!

  27. Thanks Don, I thought about that car but I just couldn't remember Dick's last name. HRP
