But a buddy who has a ‘59 has a mono leaf spring in the front and says it’s a great ride. I prefer the idea of two springs.

    Opinions?

  2. I have always heard that the Posies ride way better than mono leaf springs. My kids 51 has Posies, but we haven’t driven it yet to tell you what I think for sure.

I've never been impressed with any mono leaf spring, and I've seen a lot of them. In my opinion, they are expecting a lot from a single piece of spring steel on both sides of the ride, and the results have proved that to be the case.

The Posies super sliders I've seen and talked with owners about are reported to be very nice springs. Gene

The guy I bought my 55 PU from put monos on and hated them. He took them off and installed Posie super sliders. The truck rode great and even better when I put Bilstein shocks on it.

Another vote for SuperSlides and Bilstein shocks. I only have fronts done so far and the ride is night and day already.

Get some feedback from people with the same vehicle and springs you wanna run - makes a BIG difference.

Just thinking that back when the Mono leaf Nova days a lot of guys pulled the Mono leaves out to go with regular spring packs but I didn't know anyone who went the other way.

For my '51 GMC I went with the posies springs all the way around. I don't like the idea of a monoleaf.

I got mine from Posies, it looks like they make the eyelet or send them out to have it done.

I noticed the model number is not clear:

  12. I have Posies all around, super slides on the front of my 56. Rides really good for a low strait axle truck

I’ll be the different one here. I have a mono on my 32 sedan and it rides nice. Had a posies on a 47 coupe years ago and thought it rode ruff. I built it when I was a kid so I probably had built something incorrectly.

Since the front brakes do the majority of the stopping consider this. Spring wrap and recoil during a panic stop. CalTrac's up front anyone?

Yes, but you need to go further. What motor? Radiator? everything that could change the weight on the front end.

Yes, I need to talk to Posies, has a modified MH radiator to fit, BBC/TH400. I looked at their site but didn’t see examples of what a 3 or 6 inch drop “ from stock” looked like. I think they have 3 and 6.

At this point my main objective is to lower the truck a bit and have a better ride. I liked the look of the mono leaf heights I’ve seen, so now need to see the same for the Posie to get me where I want to be

After talking with Sid from Sid’s dropped axles, I went with a 3” dropped springs and one of his 3” dropped front axles. This should put the truck sitting so the fender line is right above the wide white wall on the tires and keep anything from hanging below the scrub line. I still plan to use the truck for light duty hauling and towing so I didn’t want to slam it. You might give Sid a call and talk to him. He specializes in these old trucks.

    Thanks,

Mine came down quite a bit. I didn’t actually measure however I don’t fit under it anymore after the upgrade and getting in and out is easier.

Shock stud to shock stud is 13”

*For the very observant, the spring clamp was replaced.

@Budget36 Hey, yes that’s the ones! If you mess with your axle it causes other changes. I opted for this route so could keep everything stock (with exception of discs but that was my choice, not required).

**Shore up your shock hangers if you have not already. If you look in my suspension thread I shared a bunch of pictures. The reason those things break is because they fill up behind with dirt and rust from inside.**

Yes on extra stuff to do with a dropped axle, plus these have quite a drop anyway, I think they look a bit odd dropped more. I’ll be make new shock mounts tho, mine are ok, but I’m going to see how my current coil over shocks ride with different springs and go from there before I buy new ones.
    Thanks!
