  8. Actually did get the old banger fired up in the 68B and it moved around the place under it's own power yesterday - the last day of Sept. Thinking it might be time to go thru the carb as it's been on there for about 7 years or so.

Progress still too darn slow on the B4 , clearance the mains for decent oiling between the bearing from the modified trough. Selected a medium to hot cam , thats what i select for chilli too . 2215B1E2-3F76-47AA-8B08-A7D5DBFECB1C.jpeg 6BE18947-BAA3-45A5-A0BD-2936421BECCA.jpeg C04EC889-9A1F-4444-8969-7AD3C9C0FC2C.jpeg CC934F42-4EF9-4FEE-B505-F10B03F82251.jpeg

punch in,suit up and swing into it..41 connie spindles,Adrian, the apprentice bought a '41 continental axle and a '46 ford axle,he's harvesting the lincoln brakes..he says he's going to use the ford spindles on account of the lincoln spindles having built in king pin inclination..kids these days, had to explain why that few degrees is so joyful..

  14. Has anyone put modern pistons from something like a 283 chevy in a T block? Also any other modern engine parts that could work internally of the T block?

Being the diligent lad,his research says there will be some camber introduced as well.. we figure the actual deviation is .14" per degree,4 degrees on the assembled axle,2 degrees a side..so now the debate is to either live with it or tweak the 4" drop axle. I told him to live with it,negative camber is a good thing,to a degree... (pun intended)

Were you able to check the bearing fit against your crank cheek radii. They look to be ‘hanging outward’ in the one pic ?
Guys (me) say crank turns TOO much torque needed....even tho the plastaguage readings are where you want and torque is precisely done. Been there done that. Your work looks good for oiling !

Just curious what is a good muffler for a slightly hopped up banger. I'm running a straight pipe right now, no muffler. Thank you!

After driving my 29 for 30 minutes, and then pulling it in the garage, I drained the oil. Why would it be as cold as oil on The shelf is?

@hardtimesainit , good spotting , yep i very certain my engine guru did comment on the radius and check radius clearance. I believe you are looking at pic 2 and if I am correct pic 3 shows some clearance. He is the kind of guy that leaves nothing to chance . But everyone is human <

no oil pressure gauge. Oil pump In place correctly, screen clean and clear after tear down. Intermediate shaft gear engaged with oil pump.

going to test the pump later today.

    Hey Kiwi ,
Starting or trying to run without that clearance...might cause BIG problems.
Good luck and please let us know how it goes !
    NOTE:
Take ‘expert’ advice under consideration....but verify !
In my case, I followed expert parts use that is in writing ! Well, would have been disaster had I fired off engine. Double checked with another expert thankfully !

  24. I've been taking a break from things.... I got my engine for my racer project and its 1917 Henry Ford crate fresh... so I am looking for ideas to improve performance and also add to convenience as far as getting being able to go to any parts store and grab things off the shelf rather than wait. Also trying to get the best bang for the buck.... as we all are.

  27. It really is not difficult, make sure that the crank has some thrust clearance and rotates without any binding.
I typically will assemble the bearings and crank into the block without the seals in place to verify clearances and use something like 90wt gear oil. This provides plenty of lubrication for the checking of clearances and does not cause undue drag.
I have disassembled a few motors over the years that had trash and metal chips between the shell and block/cap.
All of the had worn thru the top coatings and into the steel shell without siezing or spinning the bearing.
Those must have been difficult to rotate at first, but that is production.

The bearing work looks good, plenty of oil passage, make sure to run a filter, J

  30. Leon,

I am not sure what the base bore in the "T" motor is, I am pretty sure it is smaller than the 283 piston.
To help you get the answers, I would recommend getting your hands on one of the old TRW parts books.
These are out of print but can be found at used book stores, my fav, 1978, E-178.
This series of catalogs has not only the part numbers, but also has the progressive size charts.
Pistons are bore size, CH and pin listings.
    Valves, pushrods and guides also.

It is not like the auto parts listings, make, year and model.
I gave the bearing numbers to a store manager once, he could not find them, so make, model etc.
He could not find bearings for a 1929 Model A................

    John
