Art & Inspiration Automobile nameplates, emblems, hood ornaments and badges

  1. Many vintage auto nameplates were works of art. Some are plain, but some have become iconic over time. Post up your favorites and identify them if you can. Please keep it HAMB friendly.........Don. OIP.jpg

No identification necessary. This one is a beauty!

  5. That Griffin on the Essex is extraordinary. We'll never see such art likely again on a production vehicle.

When I saw that on that car, I asked the gentleman that owned it if it was ok if I took a picture of it. It's a long story of how I ended up in his shop, but he had some really cool cars! The dude was kinda "out there"! Helluva a builder though!

F100 Custom emblem, cleaned, painted black, then polished off the paint on the top to give it depth.

  12. Does anyone know why Ford chose the distinctive "horse-collar" grill for the Edsel? There must be a story there somewhere. 3057391253_acf7733934.jpg

I think LSD was first coming into recreational use in the late 50s...maybe there's a link? :)

But it's most likely that they just needed something that was very distinctive, and a vertical grill in the time of other cars' grills getting more horizontal, sure did the trick.

[IMG] I'd love to find one of these or even a radiator badge, but I don't think they exist

Wish I had a picture of the emblem on the front of Jim Ewing's Super Bell Axle coupe. Now that was an emblem!:D
