After a nearly three year hiatus (for various reasons I won't get into), I am officially back on my radical kustom project, the Telstar. My first goal was to tranfer it to a chassis I had blasted and primed around 5 years ago. First, I lowered the chassis to "mock up stance" by removing leaves and adding 4 inch blocks in the rear..then in the front, I removed the coil springs (I MAY later graft in an S-10 clip), so for the time being I left that portion unpainted. Then I transferred the body to the freshly painted chassis. It will be such a help actually seeing how the car will sit instead of trying to imagine it. Next, I have many areas to blast/wire wheel/remove surface rust from....once that it accomplished, it's back to welding and grinding....there are many areas that are just tacked that need refining and finishing....but it feels good being back on it. For those unfamiliar with the car, it's a 50 Ford. I sectioned it 4 inches and made the fins from scratch. the headlights are from a 51 Studebaker, I made the deck from the nose of a Karmann Ghia..I reshaped the trailing edge of the door openings for a more swept back look..and a ton of other mods. (First photo is the car after the chassis swap)

  13. Yep, glad to see you back on it and looking forward to watching the progress! I know all about walking away from projects for a time because of life and am in that situation currently.

dude keeps building the car then cutting it all off and starting over. could have built 4 cars with all the work he has done. lots of good ideas... just stick to an idea and build the darn thing.

Although I don't need to explain myself, It's been a learning process for me. when I look at some of the early photos of the car, sometimes I cringe at the workmanship....the evolution has been a long one...and a lot of time had passed...years, sometimes. Even if I NEVER finish it, I feel like I have accomplished more on this one project than some of the "critics" ever will. It's been three years since I even touched the car...and the photos I posted above are of the progress I made just a few days ago. I am fired up to be working on it....and someone that actually takes the time to be a jerk and post "yawn" won't deter me. It's not a race...it's not a contest..I will take whatever time I need to make damn sure the design and workmanship are to the best of my ability. I'm determined to make this car one I will be proud of.

I dont think so, i dont think you give yourself enough credit. I always thought your work looked good. And the BALLZ it takes to cut something up the way you have and try stuff... most people wouldnt even try!
I love this build and have been watching since day 1! Keep at it man :)

Kustom7777, ignore those that doubt or comment negatively unless they are willing to come to your place, and help out. It is really easy to be an "armchair" kustom car builder. Alot of those types comment about others' projects, but you never see any photos of "their" stuff.

Keep on keeping on. I have been watching the evolution since I joined the HAMB over 5 years ago and have always thought it was kool. I have a project that has taken 5 years of my time, and it is nowhere near the kustom that yours will be in the end. Life gets in the way sometimes, sometimes a vision doesnt look right when it is applied in real life, sometimes you just have to regroup.....but stay after it. I hope to see it at the Lead Aint Dead show or LSR one day in the future!

Starting and stopping the work interrupts the continuity of the of the work progress, meaning would you of done it the same way after the break as if you had not stopped. This could be good or bad because there is always a better way of doing something. You never know if you could come up with a better design or solution by waiting a few days or a few years. Then again you might be on the right track the moment you decided to stop work. Nice hubcap collection.

  27. I think "most" of it was light ball busting. But, going back through time you have to admit it is kinda comical. We have all shelved projects from time to time. I spent most of the last decade playing on the salt with my A tudor in storage. Do yourself a favor tho, this time around stick to your current decision instead of design by committee
