Silly question. Were the light covers there to protect the glass and then they could pop them off for night driving?

From what I’ve always heard and read he was opposed to the big block because of how it affected the handling of the car. He was a big fan of the injected small block ie 375hp 327. That was his baby.

There is another story that may see to contradict this. Although he did speak about the added weight of the big block.

In the early '60s the horse power wars were heating up. The 327/375hp engine was becoming less competitive. Zora said with the technology of the time it was going to take a lot of money to develop the small block further to remain competitive. He went on to explain that they already had the big block and further development costs for passenger car use would be far less.

Looks like a great candidate. I note the Blair's Speed Shop signage. Any pictures of the car in an earlier day?

No, but I’m hoping eventually the H.A.M.B. will be able to help with that through old pictures!

    What I know so far.
Car looks to be a Southern California car. The oil change sticker in the door says 2/25/64 canago park (where I was born again destiny lol)

My buddy has kept it in his shop out in the high California desert for the past 30 plus years!
He drove it home just as it looks today, said the 327 smoked pretty bad.

    Kinda of a neat story.

  24. Couldn't figure out what was wrong with that car until just now...

... yes, yes, I'm certain now...

It's parked in the wrong driveway.

How did you determine injected 275 HP?

I agree the car is a great start for sure. Body looks pretty good and if it was in the high desert it probably has little rust on the metal parts-hopefully. My avatar car came out of New Mexico and it was pretty much rust free when I bought it in 82. I am sure you will have a lot of fun with the car.

As to Duntov, I believe his heart was pretty much with the small block and it is hard to argue with the small blocks he had to work with. When guys look at my big block in my avatar car a number of them tell me how heavy they were and some tell me that is why Duntov did not like them (not sure that is the only reason if the truth be told).

I enjoy telling them that I have a 327 in my black car and a 427 in my red car and the weight on the front is less with the 427 than with the 327. A number of them do not believe it because they read in a book or the internet that the big block is so heavy. It is heavier, but with aluminum heads and a few other changes the weight differences between the two lessens. My red car is probably 30 lbs or so lighter on the nose.

What are your plans with the 61?

I was told by those smarter than me is it based up the grommet location in the fire wall. From what I under stand it has to do with the 275hp running the tach drive cable off the gen opposed to the 315hp running tach drive cable off of the dist. It sounded convincing the corvette guys. Lol

Based upon the stunt man decals and the registration in the glove box it looks like the last owner to drive the car was Korean War veteran and Hollywood Stuntman Bob Orrison. Thought that was pretty cool.
