Found this Ford waiting in the back of a local car guy’s field.


Identify these taillights



Looking for info on this vintage Kustom. It is rough. Does it have a known history in PNW? I have the opportunity to rescue this car.

Love to know if you know what you know.

Current owner tells that it is a “George and Eddie Car” In some of the old little books there was a plan on how to cut up a coupe and is this one of 35 of those plans. Who remembers this?

With those rear fenders it was probably also used as a drag car.

 

Crush it and put it out of it's misery!

 

Not that it matters much, but door handles, fuel filler flap and trunk hinges suggest it is a ‘50.

Whatever the case, the severe rust through renders this poor car an exceedingly difficult one to ‘rescue’, if by that term, you mean restore.

Documenting it’s existence and prior history may be as much as can realistically be done.

It is, as Ray said, a 1950.

 

Was a very interesting car in its' day. Appears to be a Business Coupe and not a Club Coupe. Can't quite make out those tail-lights, but I think they are '53 or '54 Mercury. Can't seem to recognize the canted, quad headlights. Anyone care to speculate?

 

Taillights almost look Mopar from later 50's. But, I've been wrong, lots of times before!

 

I think the taillights were/are '55 Chrysler.....missing the upper 'cap'.

A bit too much patina.

 

A little elbow grease and it should be driving by the weekend. It's already got the New Hamb approved patina. That's half the battle done....

 

I think the tail lights are 1952-53 DeSoto, inverted.

 

It has flare ... zzz.

What the heck is a “George and Eddie Car”?

 

George Barris and Eddie Munster, a kustomized nightmare. Id say youre about 30 years too late to bother much with it. Pretty crunchy and crusty looking to me

 

I think it's waiting to be put out of it's misery.

 

In it's day I bet it was pretty cool.

 

Looks like it spent some time under water. And the rear wheel wells look like it may have been used as a tractor...

 

I thought 50s had hidden trunk hinges?

 

Save the roof and rear glass for another project.

 

George Barris and Eddie Munster could have not of even dreamt up the concoction that it has become. Back in the day it would have been, "aerodynamic" could be a term. Somebody definitely spent some serious time modifying it.

 

They began with '51 models........moreover, as I recall, there is a difference in '49 vs '50 hinges. I'm thinking the pivot pin is exposed on '49, covered on '50. That could be in error, but I am certain about what year they went from exposed to hidden.

‘53 on the left, ‘52 on the right. Not really a match. I am a long time owner of a ‘55 Chrysler.....doesn’t automatically make me an expert, but does improve the odds of being correct.

Maybe there was some input from the builder of the Mystery car?

 

Totally buildable. Drag it outta there.

 

Here in (Rustland) Upstate New York, that would be considered a "builder"

Headlites look just a bit too far apart to be 59 chev, but maybe 59 olds? W/different trim rings? Agree on the 55 chrysler taillites, notice how far up the fender the rust goes on both sides? Looks like some small fins were there, too. I'd like to see this one on the road, minus all the damned rust n rot. Maybe w/o the fender flairs, or at least trimmed a lot thinner.
Would like to see the little books that show how to alter 35 different cars. Don't think I've seen that one. Not even in a lot of the Pop Mech. Curiosity on the other 34, + just how close did this one get to the orig idea/illustration?

Save that "stimulus check" to spend on Bondo to replace what's fallen off.
