At a show today and this showed up!

Moderators remove if deemed too new. But I think a lot of this was early work but I could be wrong, of course.

I remember this car from the 1985 Street Rod Nationals in St. Paul, Mn. As a 13 yr old kid, its was one of the few cars I remember from that show and had quite an influence on me, even though I didnt know what I was looking at then.

 

Other than a few oddball bits, that's a perfect period piece for the early '60s. Kaiser superchargers no less! The repaint color doesn't suit it, but it's very cool nonetheless!

Wheels and tires miss the mark, and the interior is a bit of a miss, some of those choices look a bit dated, but it's a neat example of a home-built, survivor, show rod.

 

Hard to believe that car was the best choice for taking someone to the hospital to give birth... cool story though.

 

What year, make, and model is it? I'm guessing Essex Hudson, looking at the rear window.

What's the component on the passenger side with plumbing, behind the header? Why is there a plate behind the engine?

 

Wow, lots of cool stuff going on with this car, even if the proportions are a little wacky by modern standards.
The engine is so far forward...and it looks like there's a secondary firewall of some sort mounted behind the block. Ditto sgtlethargic (above)...what the heck is that??

 

Are those wide-eight wheels?

 

It had Pontiac 8 lug wheels and drums adapted all around.

It is a '34 Chevy coupe. And the plate isnt a plate it is a chromed sheet metal cover for the distributor and plug wires, an early SBC thing someone else that knows better can comment on.

 

I havent figured out the frame yet, but that didnt look Ford to me, but it had buggy springs front and rear.

 

The frame may be the reason for the funny proportions?.?.

No, I did not. Wish I could have though!

 

I think they had to have the engine forward to have room for everything going on behind the engine.

 

I dont know this to be true, but I think that plumbing behind the header is some kind of power brake assist or setup. It looked like a brake pressure switch was plumbed into it.

 

The plumbed unit looks like a hydroboost power brake. The 'plate' is a ignition/wires cover system (probably came with the 'Vette motor) that was used on Corvettes to prevent ignition noise from interfering with radio and TV signals due to the fiberglass body not blocking the noise like a metal body would.

 

At first I thought it was a fuelly 327 but they just used the top cover of the Rochester to make their air filter. Still I wonder if the engine or original engine in the car started his life as a fuel injected Corvette engine the chrome cover on top of the distributor is early Corvette as far as I know and no one repops them. Edit I didn't see crazy steeve reply before my reply.

 

The frame rear crossmember looks to be 42/48 ford, as does the front rail and steering box mount to frame,but vision is limited from those shots

 

Yes, I agree the frame, suspension, and axles are 42-48 Ford.

 

Now that car has character. Really like the Corvette ignition shields done in conjuction with the headers.

 

I'd like to know the story behind the donor Corvette!

 

That's a power brake booster, I had a 56 T Bird that had one just like it.

Pontiac 8 lug wheels with finned brake drums.

 

The Bendix Power booster was common in the 50’s when people wanted power brakes on cars without them stock. The neat thing about them was you could pump the brakes like a standard brake car when it wasn’t running, something hard to do with the booster in-line back then. They were used in fork lifts for many many years making them available today.
Prestige Thunderbird in Sante Fe SpringsCa. still uses them on T-Birds with disc brake conversions and dual master cylinders.

 

Midland Power booster, still available I think.

It looks like the '63 grille had the crease. But the headlights (trim rings) don't look to be from a Lark.

 

Yeah. Looks like the headlamp trim is from a '62 Chrysler Newport.
