Looks awesome. Do your motor a favor and replace the paper air filters with K&N or Speedway copycat ones, I did and it made a big difference.

The good news. Drove it today for the first time in a while. The bad new is that my new heads are leaking from tiny pin holes in the aluminum from bad casting. I’m going to call H&H tomorrow and see if they will do anything for me. I don’t have very high expectations. I got them in January and paid $900 bucks. Then had them polished and powder coated for another $800. I’m not looking forward to taking them back off. The other bad news is my banjo rearend is leaking pretty bad as well. Looks like I’m going to have to pull that out too. I might end up putting a Ford 9”in it. The biggest problem with the rearend is the geometry is way off. I might have to take care of that as well. Yikes! For now I just put it in the garage so I can try to figure out what to do next. I have way to much money in this now. I may end up pulling the plug on this project. I’m going to have to sleep on this one. 93AE0D19-0BC7-4A3B-82BC-6455F609FC51.jpeg 162F3560-E98E-44C8-ABD4-9DDC5F3EE939.jpeg 27523DFC-4662-43B5-B4B1-B64C61FA0F24.jpeg 3EEF6695-3D26-492F-A454-4B4C255B7FDF.jpeg 6B33398E-1DA9-4374-83D0-6055B15D4855.jpeg 6855CB5C-0F61-4115-A254-D4F35E556F74.jpeg 9F3B9819-46BF-421B-9BAC-0979CD2F4608.jpeg DB6A8A9A-D0BA-4EE4-AC33-30AFAB768D7C.jpeg

Hopefully H&H stand behind their products and replace the heads free of charge. Please keep us posted, and don't give up now, you are nearly there.

Put a can of KW block seal in the coolant. Follow the directions. It will seal those pinholes up. Seen it seal a leaking Cummins diesel head before, if it can stand that pressure, that flathead will be no sweat...

He certainly should follow up on the Vendor Warranty first as it a little early for bandaids...that is of course all good if this is a standard aluminum flathead head issue and remedy...

He spend $800 to powder coated them. H & H can give him another set of heads but he is probably out the $800. Maybe the block sealer is not a bad option.

Stephen, your car looks awesome bro!!!
You can overcome these obstacles. You have almost rebuilt the whole car since you got it. There are always bumps in the road and I know you can manage them.
    If I may give a opinion about the heads. . . .
I would contact Mike at H&H before I put any type of sealer or stop leak in the engine.
Let me know when you're ready to look into the rearend deal, I'll come over and help. Good luck and keep your chins up brother!!

Steve, just take one thing at a time. You'll get it. I would be frustrated too. But it sure looks GREAT!!

I talked to Mike at H&H today and told him what was up. He’s going to send me a new set of polished heads. He told me to call him in two week and that he should be getting some from casting in three weeks. Then it takes three weeks to polish them. He’s also going to pressure test them. I’m really pleased at the way he handled it. “Big Props” to Mike @ H&H. He’s a stand up guy. I really appreciate that.

Thanks Greg. I am pretty frustrated. I really wanted to be driving it this season. I have another project that I haven’t been able to work on because I’m putting all my money into this. Right now I have 60K into my car and truck and I’m driving a $500 dollar POS. I’m kind of in over my head. Trying everything in my power not to give up on this one. If I didn’t take on my 29’ my truck would be done now. I’m going to try to hang in there a little longer. Thanks again for the kind words an support. You and everyone else on here have been great. Just in case you’re wondering what my other project is, it’s a 1964 Chevy C10 on a 2003 Silverado 4x4 chassis. Here’s a couple pics. The first one is before I started and the second is on the 4x4 chassis. Since that picture was taken I now have the rearend 18047690-0EDE-4022-9B0E-400FC5115FBD.jpeg BC308BF8-C147-47E8-8F6C-5A800448A6F0.jpeg in the right location.

Great to see it back on the road! I'd seal it up with some water glass and throw some stop leak and the thickest gear lube I could find in that rear and drive it to death. Banjo's are great rears. When you get the new heads it will be a simple swap and H&H shouldn't care if you do. Get some road time there!

H&H are stand up guys. They have a niche market and they know us crazy flathead guys are a tight group. Am glad they are taking care of you. Big deep breaths Stephen. You will have the car sorted out soon.

Thanks man. I’m taking a break from it for a while to get moving on my truck but I’ll be getting back on it soon. I don’t plan on giving up yet.

I’m sure I could get the rearend to stop leaking using what you suggested. My main problem is that the heads are so porous that exaust is going into the coolant causing the motor to overheat. I’m going to have to wait for H&H to send me new heads and that’s going to be a while. Till then I have plenty to keep me busy. I’ll keep you and everyone else here updated on the progress.

I can certainly believe the heads are that porous. We had the same problem when we did a deuce for a fellow here and they made good on the heads as well. It did take a while to get them though.

Thanks @Stephen Barrett for the amazing 17 pages so far on this intriguing story ! I am curious to know if you ever got the new heads H & H and what the final out come is or was on how this whole project is doing now ?
    Thanks from Dennis.
