JP yes it is an Offenhauser 360-not sure how great it is performance wise but I am kind of old school. Found it on ebay.

427 sleeper I prefer Jim and the color is PPG tri-coat candy apple red. They no longer offer the color. Every picture seems a bit different. In the sun, the candy pops-depending on the angle. I have had a couple of girls ask me the color since they would like nail polish in that color. Kind of makes me chuckle. My buddy got a new GMC pickup and the color is close although it is not a true candy and there is not as much flake. If I had to repaint the car (and I hope I don't have to) I would use the GMC color and shoot if over a aztec gold base and add some flake or diamond dust which is what PPG did in the original mix of tri-coat candy apple red.

Dan the Buckshot car is the original deal-great car with great history. I believe the car is in Pennsylvania.

Doug, the guys in my car club kid me about cutting the hole-one guy was there when I did it and he thought I was nuts. I had no shake and no qualms about cutting the hole. It was just a necessary deal. I have pictures of that hood before I repaired it. The car was an old drag car out of New Mexico and ran modified production in the 70s. It had a hole that was like 18" by 30" or something silly. Went through a lot of work to make it "stock".

Colin glad you took the plunge with the scoop. Vetrod has one like it and modified drag cars are flat out cool IMO.

  2. The 57 had a blower at one time. We found an already cut hood and a swap meet 67 vette bb scoop. That hood is now on Jim Hayes's red 56 with stack injection. When I had my 60 I bought another hood with a hole "just in case". Now that the 57 is in my care it hasn't told me what it wants to be and I have a 671 on the shelf . Every once in awhile I look for another hood:p

Thanks 31hotrodguy. Kind of a funny deal when I was talking to this guy with a Corvette baseball cap on Saturday and he seemed to like the car but maybe not so much. He liked the color but the interior was leather in a non stock color (tan) and I told him the wife will put up with all the racket the car makes (and it is considerable), a pretty rough suspension and a roll bar downtube next to her legs but she really likes the leather seats. He asked why put a big block in it and I told him I like small blocks and big blocks-plus I told him it never fails to put a smile on my face. He asked me how long I owned it (since 1982) and what was the condition when I bought it. I told him it was an old drag car out of New Mexico in pretty bad shape, that spent almost all of its useful life as a drag car and I told him I would never think of restoring it since it would have ruined the car and he seemed to perk right up. His response was yes since it was an old drag car anyways I guess I see what you mean. Not sure how convinced he was, but he reminded me of Sergeant Schultz accepting Hogan's logic when the logic was not so logical. I guess he did not want me to violate a nice example, when I consider turning an old drag car into a stocker the real violation of history. I guess it depends what side of the fence one is on.

LB (& Loveoftiki) that is Steve Norton's 56 with a big block-he calls it Tunnel Rat. I believe the pictures may be when he had it at the 2018 Meltdown. I took some pictures of him coming in and leaving the event with his car on the hauler but they did not come out-camera was thrown away shortly after.

Here is a picture of his 56 and my black car in the staging lanes in 2018 at Byron. His car is really cool and surely looks the part as a 60s drag car IMO. IMG_1750r1.jpg
