Anyone know what kind of screw this is called?

I can see it is an oval head, but other than that, I'm not familiar with that type of screw!

 

That's a 'special' and I've heard those referred to as 'captured' or 'captive' fasteners. They have to be threaded into whatever they secure and the reduced-diameter shank retains them in the piece. Usually used on lids and covers that may be removed on a regular basis. I've also seen them with washers, pal nuts or c-clips on the shank to retain them. You can buy them (McMaster-Carr shows them) but finding an exact duplicate may be tough.

Most you'll find have a machine thread on them, this one appears to be a sheet-metal type thread, which may make it hard to find.

 

I'll try those names see what i come up with. This screw goes on the headlight bezel that i got from that Buick.

 

Worse case, buy a standard oval-head sheetmetal screw and turn/grind the shank down to the minor diameter of the screw thread.

 

These are generally found on industrial equipment and on some types of gear are OSHA required.

 

Is it ok to trim the front cross member? My panhard bar is way too close

Use a USB charger, less products to breakdown. I get mine from the marine store. But I really like the ashtray idea.

I know I'm no where near paint, but I've been seeing this on other cars... definitely thinking about doing this to the rest of the car. If course the stud holding the gauges in place popped off.

Did some welding on the A pillars. My hinge pins came in today so I got one door hung. I think that's enough annoying the neighbors for today.

Messing with the steering column today. Do you measure the drop from the center or the top of the column? Found a wooden crate that puts me about 10" off the floor. Needless to say I might need seats that sit a little lower

that might be what i'm looking for thanks. when i got the car there wasn't a whole of the little parts and i don't want to start a million threads about how this and that goes together.

 

Found these cougar cores. Might have to raise them up so the wife doesn't look like miss Daisy.

Much better. IMHO the seat back should be window level or below. No high back buckets

 

I couldn't do the giant conversion van street rod seats. What's a good rule of thumb on where to mount these kind of seats?

 

Are they on tracks? If so mount so that you are comfortable and have some adjustment forward and back

 

See I'm not such a terrible welder
I used that 1.5" square tubing that was originally for the engine. I figured it would hold my fat ass better than a SBF. A couple of plastic washers to level it out. Now I'm going to spend the rest of the afternoon I'm my car spinning the steering wheel making car noises

Went to C-Tech today and got a junk connecting rod for a column drop... Saved me $100, but I'm not liking how that tubing makes it sit to low.... Easy fix

I'm curious. Why the booster/master was installed so far inboard?

 

Me too. I put mine on the Lincoln so that the pedal was on the left side of the steering column. That pedal is right where the gas pedal should lay.....

I would have mounted the booster closer to the hood spring. That firewall will flex, did you put a brace from the booster to the dash? I used the Speedway hanging pedal kit, it comes with a brace, mine fits right under the steering column on mine. Mine still has a tiny amount of flex with the brace, but nothing like it would have without it.

 

Most setups I saw had them right about there and with the way the pedal curves it puts it pretty close to the original brake pedal location.
I have not reinforced the firewall yet but that's on the list

Because if using a junkyard pedal assembly, they're almost always braced off the steering column and are setup to attach there.

 

I've been wrestling with what to the bumpers. Initially I was thinking about sliding the stock bumper back a couple inches but it still leaves a big gap and I don't wat to deal with the stone guard. I found the nerf bar thread on the hamb and I'm starting to warm up to using VW nerf bars. They're a little beefier looking and cost a lot less
