Another thing I noticed on a friends 32, he kept complaining about his right foot getting wet every time it rained, I told him he just needed a new cowl vent rubber and he told me he had replaced it just a few months earlier. I handed him the hose told him to spray water on the cowl vent while I was in the car. As soon as he started a little drip fell and then another, as I got up under the dish I realized he didn't have a hose on the factory drain that catches any water that gets past the seal, a cheap fix and no more wet foot. My 41 Plymouth has a working cowl vent, although I did install an electric actuator. That made room for the A.C. The mechanical linkage took up a LOT of room under the dash. I enjoy it on nice days with the windows down.
I had a 32 cowl vent installed on my A coupe when I was having it built. Even on 90 degree plus days I get cool air on my feet and up into the car. The cost of the vent and installation was an extra $400 I think probably the best return on the dollar in the whole car.

Hummmm, now you have gotten me to thinking. I don’t know if the Lincoln had a drain hose, for sure there’s not one on there now. As many times as I’ve been under that dash, I’ve never noticed a spot for one, now I need to take another look. The couple of times I drove it in a light rain, it dripped, and it does every time I wash it, just figured it was the rock hard gasket......

Would never fill the one on my 37 Plymouth even with A/C. Really miss having the wing windows I had on my 48 Plymouth. The wing windows and cowl vent combined were great.
My Dad's chopped 32 5-window project was an old hot rod with a bashed-n-welded-n-leaded cowl vent. 30 years ago I cut that mess out and welded in a nice flat panel. Now that we are finally doing the final body fab we are changing gears again and I will replace a vent into the cowl.
It's a dang cold day when you might see my 40 or my 33 without the cowl vent at least cracked open a little
Both my trucks have crotch coolers and I've spent considerable effort, over the years, to keep 'em working. Somewhere, up in my loft, is a plastic stencil of the three Rice Crispies characters. If I ever find it again, I'm going to use it to paint their image on the back side of the vent door so you can see it when open.
Funny you should say crotch coolers, I vividly remember Brenda and I on the way to a friends wedding and it was in August and I opened the cowl vent wide open on the 400 Ford sedan, her dress blew up over her head, she was a good sport and we both had a good laugh, she had never been in the car all dressed up so it was a complete surprise.
