Well...seeing as many things have been cancelled this year, I’m glad to see this event still going on. I went out there at the beginning of the month for a big heads up race. I put my 10x10 up on the big end and socially distanced the day away ( others not so much )..it’s a big place with room to spread out..always a good time. I thought I’d post it up for those looking to see some good racing action..ya never know what or who you’ll see at this great event
we will be there with our 2 cars--see my avatar--------------Original 1962 dragmaster front engine dragster and 1963 Chevrolet Nostalgia super stock with 409
Bragger....haha...looking forward to seeing some passes..thought I might get mine done before this event...not gonna happen..double shift tomorrow and back it early Friday...
1959 recorded at Detroit... U.S.Nationals Kenny Lindley-Don Hampton SOUND from Detroit 1959 Hello, My brother and I were just getting our 2nd year of drag racing under our belts in 1959. The competition was getting harder as soon as the new, more horsepower/4 speed powered Chevy sedans started showing up at Lions Dragstrip. Our thoughts started itching to build a gas coupe for the competitive Gas Coupe and Sedan Classes. Our friend was in A/Gas with his big olds powered 34 5 window coupe. So, we wanted to have something competitive, local challenge and all. Ha! We filmed our local favorite racers at Lions during the 1959 season. Then in November/December, we found an LP album called Hot Rods And Dragsters In Stereo at our favorite, Wallich’s Music City in Lakewood, CA. It was located at one of the first, big, outdoor mall areas in So Cal. Dragmaster SOUND from Detroit 1959 A bunch of local So Cal drag racers went to Detroit for the 1959 Nationals. When we bought the LP album, we listened for hours and days to capture the essence of drag racing that we heard weekly for the last 2 years at Lions Dragstrip. We had some films that I recorded, but our simple 16mm color camera did not have sound. the only way to get sound, was to carry around a reel to reel tape recorder. That was not going to happen, so, we got the films, but they were silent. The fabulous sound was in our heads with each run. H&H Automotive MEL Powered SOUND from 1959 Detroit. Jnaki I hope the event does not get cancelled as the So Cal gatherings are all being shut down due to the pandemic isolation and social distancing rules. As more people gather, the number of cases goes up anytime. For the Detroit Dragway 11th anniversary, here are several of my silent films recorded at Lions Dragstrip in 1959 and then in 2015-2016, I digitized the old LP album and now I could put two and two together. 2009 is a relatively young event. We almost had our Willys Coupe 671 SBC ready for the long tow back to Detroit in 1960. Hope the history of 1959 Detroit will make a few people happy. These last two SOUND films are my favorites and showcase the sound we grew up with in 1959 on a weekly basis. Junior Thompson SOUND from 1959 DETROIT Sidewinder SOUND FROM 1959 DETROIT
Great Day at Milan...No Detroit Dragway..but still Rad...got to take my Nephews out again..always a great time..lots of hot action on the strip and some nice cars in the show area. We set up our easy up..stayed away from everyone and had a great time..
That’s it...great way to spend my 51st Birthday..would’ve loved to had my Falcon done and made a pass ..but stupid trans cooler fitting destroyed that dream..maybe the Fall nostalgia event...
Don’t blame the fitting, blame the self obsessed jack wagon who made it. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I watched your digger run and I must say I was impressed with it. Notably. I liked the softness on the suspension and the way it just seemed to glide down the track. Most short wheelbase are a herky-jerky affair but yours left nicely. Good burnouts too. Stay after it - I hope you come back for the Nostalgia Drags this fall. 6re6
My 1965 Mercury Comet Cyclone. Love this car. Fun to drive. Runs strong for a warmed up 289... 14.13 best past so far. Race once in awhile.
Ok....so I’m a 65 Comet Lover...was supposed to own one...guy flaked so I wound up with a 65 Falcon Futura...it now has a very warmed over 289...will have some Detroit Dragway stuff attached to it...was the Comet there yesterday? I saw a blue one, but the Weld Dragstars killed it for me...I’m sorry I missed it, was it in the car show? Anyways great car..can’t beat cragars on a Comet
I have a 65 Comet Caliente down at my friends place in south Ga. I would let you have it for a good price if you really want one. It is a 289 auto with factory a/c. 80k mileage one owner with a title. PM me if interested. i could bring it to you.
Kevin Harhold’s dragster. I did quite a bit of work on this one a few years back. Fixed some engine mounting issues ( the original mid plate is a star in my “ hall of shame”), re mounted the shifter, made the fuel tank and replaced all the body panels, including adding everything forward of the motor.
