I was 15 years old in 1961. My older brother always had the small hot rodded books that I loved to read. I don't remember that specific book and picture, but that is the time zone I am wanting to build my '55 bird in. I'm just a wanna be hotrodder , not enough money or ability to keep up with the rest. But I like my tbird, and I get compliments from gray haired women !! 1594915141023_0_IMG_20200715_143043581_HDR.jpg IMG_20200722_104857335_HDR.jpg 1594915141023_0_IMG_20200715_143043581_HDR.jpg IMG_20200722_104857335_HDR.jpg

Well, you know, the location makes a little sense. The flames are coming from under the hood and out the fender wells from your "hot" engine. When they start right behind the front bumper, it might be from a car in front of you that is burning, right? Or your bumper guards had fuel nozzles in them. So why are those so acceptable?

Don't feel bad. I got ripped a fresh arse over my shoebox having shaved doors.... Lol. For safety reasons, from a guy whose car is so unsafe comparatively its not even funny.

I also found the "what needs to be said" an absolutely hilarious statement. Probably more accurate 'what I think needs to be said'... I find ripping on someone for their choices pretty useless. If someone is into cars, that's enough for me.

You have obviously lived and been influenced by the latter end of the Hamb era and you were in inspired by a style that you like...many a magazine feature were actually considered filler by many but you fell for a look that many consider less that palletable.

I often don't understand why too so many period love ends at the wheels...price aside in 63 for example there were many classy mags that would encapsulate the period in a more convincing way...making your vibe wholer...

You are your own creator, here you do share your views with many that done the walk alongside you and there is a bar...again, Even the most expertly laid vintage flames here generate negativity here so it's really part of the territory...

I'm curious Bird...have you ever considered polishing some shine into your paint as @Nailhead Jason did on his Hotrod Sedan?

I haven't found the vintage flamed roadster I spoke of with the period little flames but I will...

Glad your having a good time...do you still have the 40?

sold the 40, was actually a '39 deluxe with 40 headlites. wish i had the money to keep all my cars i build.
the '39 was a nice rod and felt like a hotrod. next winter i plan on doing some better body work and paint for the old bird. I just wanted to get it driving so I thew some cheap paint on it. a true bodyman would have primered it or just let it set another 10 years until he could do the "perfect" paint job.
    stay safe!

...the later GMs again make great Hotrods and yours has a modern twist but I was surprised to see this I believe GM behind this 888 Roadster sporting a similar stance mind you it is minus the fenders...but I like to explore connections to modern looks...as many things are not always as new as one may believe...

This pic is another of J.R Bloom's captured and shared by Hamber @landseaandair...

@birdman1 I found that Really Nicely Done Roadster sharing a Flame similar in size and style applied around 1957...Good Year Eh...These may have been the catalyst for the So called Decal Flames but these were the Real Deal...

Your decisions are plausible choices made in late 50s early 60s Something and T-Birds can Twist the Definition of Hotrod...Location of Flame could be a valid point whatever the Era Mechanically as alluded (this T does) maybe this may influence where you go with yours....Paint a Hotrod Torch connecting the side flames to a source The Hotrod Torch...Enjoy the Bird...;)

...AMBR Survivors...priceless...this one Owned by John Callahan...Tracknose Hotrods were Hot Potatoes in the early 50s...possibly due to the Roaring Roadsters entertaining the masses...many went nose to nose at the hugely popular show that was one of THE Defining Events that helped shape Hotrod as we know it today...

  22. How is this magazine possible, since Volume 1, # 1 was January 1948. I have the complete collection of Hot Rod Magazine from 1948 to the present day, and I have never seen this issue. In my teens I lived in San Francisco, California, and there were a few used magazine shops off of Market Street where I was able to complete my collection of Hot Rod, Car craft , and Rod and custom ,and I never saw that magazine anywhere.

@nickthebandit, yes that is an form of Digital Inspiration I sometimes call Stogyisms...@lurker mick is correct...That is one of the latest in a series of inspirations I have done of @Runnin shine build The Hubba Hubba and shared here...and being convincing in Inspiration is part of the Ambience of what Hamb represents and celebrates and it's odd enough just being a mix 32 and 34 but inspired graphics are also bold controversial and stunning as they have always been...

Thanks for the Kind Words...and to All that enjoy these Time-warps in Inspiration
