I was watching 2 Ford V8 pickup trucks on Ebay this week # 1 a 1938 Flathead powered pickup offered at no reserve with a bid posted at about $ 8250 was suddenly pulled and announced as sold and the other a 1941 Ford pickup , a former senior vehicle with AACA with a buy it now price of $27,900 was pulled and marked as sold as well . Appears as though somebody is wanting these early Ford V8 pickup trucks .
I sold my 38 ford last week. Its going to Australia. I feel sorta guilty letting it leave the states.

I've had a couple buddies who sold their rides to European buyers. I really wish those rides had stayed in America, but that's the way it goes.
slim, don't feel bad, my '39 went to the scrapper... after being stripped of every usable part or panel on it...
As for Europe, they had many cities flattened... if a yankee body / car helps them "rebuild" I think we can part with a few... just a few !
I'm doing my part to keep them in the states. My 39 Project, My Model A, and a friend's Model A Got the 39 out of the HAMB Classifieds.
Its tough enough to be a hot rodder in Europe or down under for that matter. They have to deal with a limited number of local cars for sale, exchange rates, high shipping costs for parts/cars from the states and customs fees on top of everything else. I've never sold a car outside the US but I've sold a Merc flathead and a trans that went to Australia as well as other parts down under and Europe as well. The way I look at it I'm just helping a fellow hot rodder with his or her project. JMO.
Bought mine last year, hadn't really kept up with old truck prices , was shocked with what I saw. Early fords with v8's are crazy , especially the 40 /41 and then the 46 to early 50's are outta site. Trucks seem to have really gotten popular in last 20 years, even trucks of various makes from late 60's to mid 80's are pricey.
No guilt from me where it goes, had my '42 Ford PU advertised here for months and months, then put it on CL.. Week later a guy comes to look at it, two days later he wired the money to me from Switzerland. Should I feel guilty I got my asking price, or should I have dropped the price in 1/2-2/3'rds to keep it here in the states?

I wish our deuce roadsters and phaetons had stayed in Australia instead of going to the US I know one guy alone who has sent 4 deuce roadsters over there. Take a look at the phaeton in the background in Royalshifter's 34 roadster thread, yep, it's Australian.
same thing happened to the harley knuckle heads in the 80's and 90's. japan couldn't get enough american life style, they were selling what was thought to be high at the time in the 10 to 30 thousand dollar range. now 30 year's later motorcycle guy's want there knucks back except there having to anti up 75 to 150 thousand. a few years ago i read where there were more real knucks titled in japan than in the USA. all trucks are hot right now might have something to do with a new truck costing 75 plus
The early trucks have been going up for a few years (really fast since last year) and the 40/41 being REALLY fast. It's just the next big thing, it too shall pass . I've had 4 vehicles go out of the country since the 90's ('59 El Camino to Japan, '64 Chevy panel truck to Germany, '54 Ford Panel truck to England and a '50 Buick to Norway if I remember correctly). BUT, I have 2 Hillmans from England here now (both sold here though).......it's a global market.
I too, think it might have to do with the new truck prices , who knows, one thing that is surprisingly hot is the patina thing. I see trucks that aside from some pricey flathead or hemis under their hoods , the rest of the truck is perhaps a step above a parts truck . fenders with weld seams all over ,dents , rust thru and they are priced over 20 grand. I do think things run in cycles and these rat rods and fake patina trucks might stick around but the market for the super slick or solid trucks will probably endure. I sorta stepped away from the rod / resto or what ever we call it now for some time but am back into the ole stuff wide open as possible and it was was my renewed interest in old trucks that brought me back.
I visited with a guy at his shop here near Austin. He was disassembling AD and TF trucks, and shoving as many as possible into containers to ship to Thailand and Malaysia. Everything except the frame and engine. His importer there will reassemble them on Toyota and Nissan chassis to sell to the local hot rodders. Sent from my SM-G965U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Good for anyone who can purchase a car/truck of their dreams, regardless of where it comes from, or where it ends up. The '40/'41 Ford p/u's are popular, and always have been, as have their car counterparts..a design that has won many over for years. Can't even compare a new p/u with these though, completely different animal.
