Projects '23 Ford Roadster build aka The Incredible Hulk

I needed a nut for the clutch fork rod.
'was sure there was one around here somewhere.
dug through all the usual places it might have been stashed in,
nope..
placed an ad,
got impatient.
decided to see if I could make one.
dug through the junk nut and bolt drawer,
chose a 1/2" lug nut.
chucked it up in the drill press and used a file to create the domed end,
then the little grinder with cut off wheel to cut a groove.
drilled it through with a 1/2" bit.
chucked up a couple 3/8" nc nuts and filed them round to about .502",
used the vise to press the rounded nuts in using a piece of all thread to keep the threads aligned.
welded them together.
chucked it back in the drill press and filed both ends clean.
done.
probably could have found a replacement on line
and waited,
or if I had a lathe and knew how to use it...

anyway this is what you can do with junk and a couple basic tools..
and little patience

Worked on the pedals.
Using an Ansen style swing pedal setup
turned around and mounted under the floor.
Made paper pattern.
Cut, grind, drill 1/4" steel plate
Cut Original pedals off
Weld new on.
Trim, bend, drill and tap for pads.
Test fit.
Getting close, a few minor adjustments, a frame mount and it should work fine.

 

I knew I'd seen this done before,
using the Chevy pickup master turned around and under floor but
'couldn't find any examples until just now
seeing construction pictures of Robert Williams chassis
in the recent Youtube video here

 

i must be missing soemthing. why wouldn't it work? the mc doesn't know or care which direction the rods are going in. i don't think it would work upside down though. hahaha

 

Mount for Ansen style bracket to bolt to

 

I'm going to run the lines out the ends of the master cylinders, if run down out the stock holes the lines would hang down too low.
'used a long 3/16" bit through the bore to ensure holes would be centered,
Drilled larger with 5/16" from the outside,
Filed flat spots on the ends
and tapped the holes with 1/8" np thread
Screwed a couple fitting in as place holders
and to check thread depth.
Push rods were just kissing the pistons
So I relieved them a touch
And put the master back in to check fit.
Stock holes will get plugged.

 

Wow! Whoda thunk? Good job!

I would expect the "You're Gonna Die" folks will be along any time with criticism of modifying a MC, but it's not me. I'm enjoying your build thread and admire your solutions to challenges along the way. To me it's kind of a "white sheet" build....lots of innovation and beautiful fabrication.

Actually thought about that too, and it still may happen.
I have another master I have been using for mock up, I could drill out the stock flare connections and tap them to take 90° fittings.

I'll have to noodle on that for a minute...

 

Banjo fittings. No machining needed.

Paul, the tech, resourcefulness, the great photography, along with attention to detail, make this one of the best construction threads anywhere. The only problem I see is, you make it look far easier, than it really is ! Hot Rod Vocation.

 

I've been looking and haven't found exactly what would work here.
Where do you find them?

 

Paul... I had this front axle setup (chopped off wishbones, reversed hangers on V8 60 tube) and ended up welding them on the bottom (tiny bead, whew! 1959)
Please tell me how you did yours...it wasn't in the text.
Magnificent build, love the Olds/Buick box. (mine's a later Olds w/ '37 LaSalle)

Whatever the thread is on a nut for the 3/16" inverted flare hard line, none of my thread gauges fit, something close to 7/16-28 but not...

 

Had good results from these guys, lots of fitting options and they can build hoses to fit most anything.
