  11. Do you know if it's rent it and drive it yourself or they park it somewhere for you?

“Barn find” is over-used, but this Nash

was out in front of a barn, at a barn sale. Trunk hinges broken in half, door handles wired, grill missing, and sheet metal very thin from rust, it’s probably only god for yard art at this point before it returns to the earth from whence it came.

    Hello,

We were on our way to see our granddaughter for a celebration. Yes, we had our masks and we stood a plus 6 feet away. But, on the way there, I saw a very nice 1955 two tone Chevy sedan up ahead. My wife was talking, I was listening and out of the direct sight line, we passed up the 55 Chevy. She took these photos with my digital camera and as we cruised by the Chevy sedan, the motor was purring quite nicely with a low rumble. The owner inside was smiling and seemed happy with his 55 two toned Chevy. It had the perfect stance and sound of those Chevy sedans from our teenage days in Long Beach.

Then, she said that she could get a good photo in the outside rear view mirror. And she did!

All of these years of taking photographs with a 35mm film camera in our early days pays off. But, as this was our first time on the road since last month, she would not allow any distractions for me, the primary driver. I wanted to take a rear view photo as we centered the 55 Chevy in the inside mirror. Alas, it was better not to rock the boat at this time. When we got home, I checked the photos and wow, she did another great job of taking photos. Shades of the early days of photo shoots all over So Cal and the northern regions of California.

The front and rear Cal Rake stance of the So Cal 1955 Chevy was closer than the outside mirror showed.

    Hello,

We were out for a jaunt to the bank for our bi-weekly cash out day. Have to give those grocery delivery people great tips for doing a tough job. They get next to nothing from the company and every little bit helps. We extended our little drive to the nearby Dana Point Harbor and the coastal city. Not that we are advocating getting outside and walking around, but a drive by will open most people’s eyes to the changes going on in this small coastal town.

Since the newer Southward bound road has created an off center way to get down past the harbor, the overall development has gone berserk. It is good that some of the very old historic buildings have been converted to drive in coffee places and restaurants. The bad is that the road is narrower and traffic is slower, both ways. When the only gas station in the north part of town closes and the surrounding quaint buildings get torn down, including a very popular Donut Shop. Something is amiss. If it isn’t historically significant, down it comes.

Now, there are 3-4 40 feet tall buildings with storefronts on the ground floor, residential units above. Where there was open space, now it seems like driving down a huge cavern in this small town. It just does not go with the old Dana Point small town feeling. It is a "nice place to visit, but we would not want to live there."

The harbor is going to have some big changes, but the atmosphere remains the same in/around the boat slips being front and center. While on a drive out on the island peninsula, out of the corner of my eye I saw something different up ahead in a parking stall. My wife had already seen it and said that it looks like her old first car from college. Well, she was ½ right. One half was there and one part was missing. Her first car purchased with her hard-earned money was a 1962 Corvair Coupe. It was in relatively good shape and ran well, to a point.

The Corvair Convertible was nicely refinished and looked to be in the right place. Except in 1962, the place where the convertible was parked (on the peninsula) was a good surf spot with fast waves, not like the neighboring, Doheny State Beach rollers. All good surf spots disappeared in 1971 with the creation of the DP Harbor and jetties.
