Great touches like the recessed license. Great stance! Love the wheel and tire combo.

Thanks all! The recessed license plate was the wife's idea... I'd like to drop the nose a little more but 's going to be her driver and she's happy with it. It's come a long way...unfortunately hundreds of hours you will never see when it's done! hehehe

I watched this car often @ Woodburn dragstrip in the 60s! Thanks for the great picture.

One of my favorite pictures, Cars and Coffee in Portsmouth, NH. My youngest grandson having the day of his life driving "Pop" to the event.

    Hey B,

Nice rolling panel delivery. Your build is pretty nice and hope to see it to completion soon. Or, when the pandemic allows you to get it done. You have done some great things with the build thread. Keep it up!
    upload_2020-7-2_4-37-50.png old, original design

Back when we were thinking of the “next big thing,” my thoughts went back to those old sidewalk scooters that we made out of steel skates and 2x4 pieces of wood and a crate with handles for steering. The newer time period would not accept the wooden crate design as there were alternatives to consider. So, I came up the original idea of a Sidewalk Scooter for any age, toddler to adult. SUNSHINE SCOOTERS… (this was before the years later, million dollar business of Razer metal scooters took over the fun zone…)

When we were getting our small business all set up with the parts, assembly line and finished product section of our garage, we needed an eye catching service truck or van. We had a small station wagon, but we needed something else. At the time, we were limited as what we could do, since the start up of the small business was just getting off of the ground.

Sunshine Scooters Models: from Small Toddler to Adult.

We had to get the business end started and ready for the assembly line production. That was covered. So, the next part of the business plan was to get a red 1940 panel truck, hot rod in place. We had difficulty with our 2nd 40 Ford Sedan Delivery with sight line problems in the passenger side blind spot. My wife wanted a station wagon, where I was planning ahead for a larger panel truck, despite the larger blind spot. My idea was a 40 Ford Panel Truck, as we both liked the design. But, we could offset the bigger view hindrance with a larger, but, tasteful hot rod mirror on the outside.

The larger panel truck could hold more parts and complete models ready (for the surf/skate shops, sporting goods stores, toy stores and the department stores) in the back of the seats. I was already thinking big things, so, the need for a larger space. But, with a cool hot rod for everyone to take notice of services offered.

Well, my wife’s future plan won over as we both decided to improve our product design and distribution. So, we needed a delivery vehicle right now, not 6 months down the line. Since that time, we have always wanted another 1940 Ford something for our driving memories and enjoyment. Your panel truck build started another “kick” to search for a different 1940 Ford hot rod. Once an owner of a 1940 Ford, it is hard to step away without looking back.

We still have our custom, original Adult Design Prototype, taking a nap in the attic. And the all wooden original design, for a toddler that started it all way back then.

This is the panel truck (one of many choices) I had planned on back then. A new version is shown here. The old version was a little off from the production model, but it was from an old memory.

  13. Hey @jnaki

Thanks for the kind words about the panel, but even more so for your story. That was some great morning reading.
