Hot Rods 27 roadster Bonneville Roadster ideas

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Tman, Jun 24, 2020.

  1. Haven't posted much here for a few years due to life and spending too much time on the Salt. Many of you know about my lakester project which I put on the shelf a few years due to the issues on the Salt and weather. Never lost the desire to finish the car and now that I am single (gettin hitched in October and she loves cars)I am about ready to get back on the car.

Here is where things get interesting. After crewing for Mctim and having other pals like Chick and Tony, Keith from the Rolling Bones. build roadsters I have the itch to use the 27 body I have up on the shelf. I could go front motor (really fast records) or rear engine (some room for playing). The plan is to make the car dual purpose, lakester and roadster. I do have to say, seeing the video of @Lucky Burton getting his car together gave me inspiration.

My thoughts are, more of a traditional Bonneville roadster with either engine config. Open to ANY roadster class except for Street Roadster S/R.

Chassis is done BTW, just need to order new axles for the QC

Lets see your pictures and ideas.

Chassis is done? But you may move the engine to the other end?

  3. It is modular. Was built for rear engine but easily could have the engine in front. I have a sawsall. Think separate driver cage/capsul with the rest just there to hold engine and rear end.

I'll donate a flathead block. What's the record in that class?

  9. Lost my engine partner so open to anything right now. The rear engine classes have softer records for now

Can't run in roadster class with a 27 body. It's Street Roadster or modified for you.

Hey Tman here's a few pictures I shot last at Speedweek. A very nicely built 26-27 T Roadster.
By the way I'm in dire need of a 26-27 T turtle deck rain gutter/beading if you decide to pass on your T project

Silly question Trent but why not throw together a street car that you can bomb around the hills in? You would get to enjoy it a few more weeks than Just speed week.

From the 2020 SCTA pre entry list page 5: XF/BGRMR

In the past at the same meets he has also run fuel: XF/BFRMR

Son Ron has also driven the car to records at past meets.

  17. Thought of that Tim. I just dont like the sun and wind that much anymore. The A tudor is stored at pretty much roller stage and I am into that car more for the street anyway

In the old days they didn't have a different class fot rear engine modified roadsters. And Lakesters run in the same class rear or front engine. i don't know why there is a RMR class now.

Here's some reference pulled off the net... some great looking 26/27 T roadsters out there. My old RMR project is now 2 different cars, I've got more photos of it if interested (should be the last photo).

The Mad Fab videos Tman mentions were a fun watch, Piero did a great job documenting it. Link below.

  22. Many people question the rear eng roadster class. But the ones built in the 50s looked so clean compared to the modern "lakester with doors"
