It's a European/International Formula 3 car, also known as Voiturette or Cyclecar - in effect, it's what a Midget is known as outside of the USA, only with a much smaller engine. Overall size is about the same, performance probably not too far off.

  2. Thanks for getting back to me Michael!

I know I've brought up the Duesenberg racer that my dad classmate drove back in the late 40's-ealry 50's in the Lower Merion area outside of Philadelphia before. Dad called Bailus Thomas (owner) a few years back and they talked about the car. Bailus said that he didn't know much about who he and his brother bought it from, but did mention that their uncle Joe was a driver for the Duesenberg team. When I saw the pic with Joe's Auto Repair, I thought that maybe this was a connection. Sending Dad the pic to see if he recognizes it, but by the time Bailus and his brother owned their car, it was pretty rough and had been brush[painted green with house paint.

I'd like to solicit some help. In 1904, a Mr. Harold Thomas commissioned Locomobile to build him a race car. This car was raced in Europe and in the 1905 Vanderbilt Cup, where it finished third. In 1906, Locomobile built two more race cars that were identical to each other and raced them in the 1906 Vanderbilt Cup. The #16 car won the race and the #1 car, its twin, was wrecked as it crossed the finish line. The fame of what then became known as old 16 completely overshadowed the 1905 car and the trail of it and Dr. Thomas goes cold. I can find no other references after 1906. As we know, old race cars do not just go off and die, they are renamed, rebadged, and raced in lesser events, from here to Timbuktu. So what happened to the 1905 car? It had a 7"bore x 7" stroke, T head motor, with one exhaust port per cylinder. It was assigned the #7 for the 1905 Vanderbilt.

Gentlemen, I come to you in need of information on the 1910 Franklin D race car. I have never seen any photos of the Franklin at the start of the race, during the race or the end of the race. I have been very impressed by the knowledge and the rare photos that members have shared on H.A.M.B. I am also interested in any photos of cars in any of the Cactus Derbies. So can you Help? Thanks for your input in advance.
