Daytona Continental in February of 1962. Don Yenko in the Corvette and NASCAR's Joe Weatherly in the Lister Corvette. The second Corvette is too indistinct to identify.

Does anyone recognize this mid year Corvette coupe from the days when it ran the quarter mile? Probably in a different color.

Quick that is what you would call "dated". Is that an NCRS decal in window?

I believe this has always been the basic logo for the NCRS.



That paint work should have been considered dated a week
after it was done. The pinstriping design belongs on a Steinway
piano.

I stick up for stock Corvettes but definitely dig semi custom ones
as well. While I claim that all Corvettes (at least through 1972)
are hot rods, I also think they are ripe for individualizing. Some
just aren't tastefully done. Could this one be considered the
Liberace of Corvettes?

 

As big as I could get it.

^^ The words ridiculous and hideous quickly come to mind. If that
asinine front end were taken care of the car would be acceptable,
even though the flairs are a bit overstated.

 

This one reminds me of a car a friend of my dad's built in the late 70's, early 80's in NDakota. Was a '64 or '65 vette roadster fitted with a lift off hardtop. Car was blown, painted in wild metallic green with yellow/gold panel or lace painting. Probably closer to a street freak type. He did a great job on the car, and showed it and drove from time to time. He brought it by our house to show me once cuz he knew I was a car junkie. He had started with a tired stock, white, plain small block vette.

I lost touch with him for a number of years when I moved to Seattle in '87. About 10 years ago, I had a chance to get back in contact with him. I asked him about that vette. He sold it to a guy a number of years ago... who restored it back to it's white, plain vanilla incarnation and just keeps it stuck away in storage. Guess it doesn't even get driven. Oh well...

Looks a bit better cleaned up

 

A guy with the handle Chromefinsrestoration just posted these up on Instagram. Supposedly this group of Corvettes has been recently found. Very little information posted other than the pictures themselves. The white 58? 59? in the first pic caught my eye. There are a lot of guys on here who have far more knowledge of custom history than myself. Maybe someone will recognize it.

 

28 minutes. I knew it wouldn't take long. And it doesn't surprise me that I was wrong on the year of the Vette. I'm not a Vette guy. Thanks @Moriarity

 

Moriarity is correct on it being an XP 700 replacement nose more than likely. I would be interested on knowing the history of the 56/57 next to it. With the hole in the hood and the pictures leaning against the windshield it may have had an interesting life, possibly.

 

There was a white one that ran at Dover drag strip, I think maybe "Performance automotive" I'll see if I can find the pictures.

Found it! Amazing that after 70 years of what my brain has been through it still remembers the important stuff. I believe the car with the big nose ran out of Moroso's shop in the other lane is Dick Moroso.
