The screen on the pickup tube was the problem, replaced the float while I was in There and problem solved and the gauge works...

The profile of this Chrysler with top up is 'Bonneville-Slippery'! Just stunning.
Great call on the black tires with the wheel covers. (for now...Chrysler wires are the prettiest of the lot!)
Great score, I'd love that for a driver...(popular knowledge when I was in high school:
"Oh, Chrysler convert? GREAT 'road car'...")
Paint looks superb.

 

The pictures make the paint look better than it is, but it’s a nice driver for sure

I recall seeing a few of these '64s in the late '70s. In those days a car more then 10 years old was a rare sight, and they were worth literally nothing. I liked them a lot even then. When ever I'd bring it up in conversation with my elders it was shunned because to them it wasn't interesting or collectable, it was just a car.

 

Honestly I treat my old cars a lot like they are just a car, sometimes I forget and wonder what people are staring at. For years my only car was a 65 Valiant and I didn’t understand why people asked how I was traveling if all I had was an old car. I think nothing of getting in any of them and driving them anywhere, that’s what they are for

Yes and usually if you experience a breakdown you can get parts if necessary and do a roadside repair.

I’ve done that many times.

 

I’ve had very few breakdowns where I couldn’t make it run long enough to get home in all my years of driving old cars

I had an alternator give out on the way to Ft McMurray one dark night.
Went as far as the battery would go and fortunately found one of the only wide spots in the road to drift off to relative safety.

There was no way to continue after that with 3 more hours to go.

Another trip in an old 6 cylinder Acadian was halted way out in the wilds of B.C. heading to Vancouver when the fuel pump stopped pumping.

Both journeys were continued after getting parts and wrenching beside the road.

Good times and memories that some people wouldn’t understand.

 

I get tired of hearing the same "you should put a late model fuel injected motor in that thing so it would be dependable" I always tell them I'm not smart enough to work on those

 

Anybody that says that needs to talk to me about the Tuned Port Vette I had and how many times it rode home on a roll back on account of that damn FI!

Love that big boat Chrysler. I think it needs a set of whitewalls ( did I just say that?) and some. Dodge or Plymouth rally wheels and trim rings.

 

Well today was one of those days I should have stayed in bed....car quit charging so it got swapped over to an electronic voltage regulator and now charges again...then a transmission line sprung a leak...that’s fixed now just need to go to town in the morning to pick up atf...

I really hope tomorrow goes better...

Pennzoil Dex/Merc trans fluid for the old push button - that's what I'm using for my trans - best match I could get for the old trannies.

 

Why did you stop on the Vancouver trip? It's downhill from Alberta!

Well took the car for a drive last night, drives beautifully, took a run out to the lake.


Then on the way home it quit, my wife came to the rescue with a tow rope.

Looked at it last night, fuel pump is not pumping, tried a new pump and still nothing, I’ll pull the fuel pump pushrod this morning and have a look, not an uncommon big block mopar issue

So much for new parts...yesterday I changed the pump to a new one that had never been run off a new engine I have sitting on a stand, nothing. After pulling fuel pump pushrod this morning and measuring it and determining there is nothing wrong with it, I suspected the lobe on the cam, out of desperation i pulled a pump of a 361 that has been sitting for god only knows how long and it’s the one that works...

Go figure....

Remind me, this is fun right?

Put up a picture of the factory wheel cover and I may have a set to match it. I have hundreds of 60's wheel covers in my hoard.

 

I’m actually pretty content with what’s on the car now, I will see what is on the parts car when I get it, I forgot to look!

I appreciate it though, I will let you know if I am in need of any.

I am not a Mopar guy but I gotta say that big Chrysler ragtop looks pretty good. You were lucky to find it in such good condition and it looks like it cleaned up great. Summertime and a convertible to cruise, life is good
