Big news for me this month is that my straight-through Holley NH, high-volume intake, and Z head get delivered today!

  4. Having a bang up time here in the central valley of CA. 270 miles on the new engine in my pickup and "old" engine out of the pickup going into my newly acquired roadster. Having a blast. :)

@mctim64 I've been meaning to ask. What's the overall plan for this new roadster? Or is it a surprise?

  7. Overall plan is to bolt it together and drive it. Paint is fairly good, needs a little touch up but Justin is a wizard with paint and body. Other than being apart for 46 years it's in really good shape. New engine with rebuilt B tranny and we're good to go.

This was Floyd's coffee cup that sat on a shelf of a coffee shop in Reedley for many years, when Floyd would come in on a regular basis the waitress would pull it down and fill it for him as he would sit down. Just the way things were back in the day. My plan is to keep Floyd's old roadster looking pretty much like it looks on his old cup.

    Burl has been busy
Dan is in holding pattern and I have been dogged with cammer motor that is just not cooperating.
I will post pics once all the parts are in one place (assembled) and not in boxes everywhere else.

Definitely getting there, but I need to pull back some and do some house work while it's not blazing hot out.

  11. Mctim64, is that an air vent on the side of the cowl on your roadster?

  12. Yes, both sides. Added on sometime in the fifties. The family I got the car from had owned it since 1950.

Been fighting radiator caps that won’t seal on a ‘29 threaded inlet. Put two gaskets in a plain reproduction cap and will check it out.

Funk conversion. Believe it or not, the six cylinder version can put the hurt on the V8

    Checking in-
Put some miles on the pickemup this weekend. It has pretty good power, this head seems to like about 15 degrees by 1200 rpm but no more than 20 at 2000. There's a fine line between too much and starting to make heat.I might put the stock distributor back in to get a feel for where it likes to be at different rpm. It's a nicely made head and I didn't get any bolts to move after only two heat/cool/torque cycles.

It runs good for a work truck. It needs dual pipes I think... 55E35CDC-F583-45FB-9E64-1A127B517553.jpeg

Can you show a picture of the dampener itself?. Dampening a flywheel is thinking outside the box.Ive seen lovejoy couplers used on pump lashups and fiber ring gears but never a dampener..

So, this is a photo of the 22lb lightweight one, on the flange side. The black plate covers a recess that has pucks installed in it. The pucks can move to offset... absorb the torsional action of the crank.
I'll see if can pull a cover and photograph internals... but that's what it looks like on all three flywheel weights.

    Question for the members.

I am going to modify a fairly stock A engine and will modify the oil pump for higher volume and run the oil through a filter and then pressure lines to the front and centre mains.

For lines and fittings what sizes of line and fittings are best to use?

I will drill and tap into the bearing caps and was thinking either 1/8" NPT with 3 /16" or 1/4" compression copper lines or use AN or SAE fittings with 1/8" or 3/16" lines. Bearings are babbit. Rear main bearing will be gravity fed out of the valve chamber.

The Brierley book states 3/16" or 1/4" lines at 20-30 psi pressure but no recomendation on size of fittings. The Iandola R & C article states 1/8" NPT fittings.

    Thanks

  28. Bob,

    This is what I have done in the past;
I pull out the original gravity feed tubes, all 3.
I then tap the hole where the tube fed into the bearing directly 1/8"npt
I use a compression fitting without the retaining nut or sleeve.
Feed a 1/4" copper line down thru the original gravity hole in the valve chamber and down into the fitting in the block.
I use solder to retain the copper tube into the fitting, easy to do, not removable.
Use "T" fittings in valve chamber to bring the lines and feed together.
I would use a modified V8 pump with pressure relief, 25-50 psi is good.
make sure to use silicone on the rear cap to keep weepage from leaking out the back.
