Looking for pics of the different tail light options for mama’s 55 Ford. Packard tail lights are probably out of reach for us, even though they are our favorites.

There’s always that option as well. I like em too.

  6. '58-59 T-bird lenses, I've seen modified '62-64 Fairlane used, or how about LEE-style lenses...

Note they offer both '55 and '56 versions, I was always partial to the '56 but you'll need the '56 bezel/reflector.

I tried the Lee lenses in my 55 but found I liked the originals better. Love the Mercs but not spending that much for taillights.

Monsterous sized tail lights always appear over the top. To me Mercury Wagon tail lights look just right. Something cool but not over bearing.

How about building your own tail light cans and frenching in just the lenses, This would surely cost far less than a set of complete Packard lights, and in my opinion looks just as cool......

I love the mercury but for the money I wonder if you couldn’t make some that have a similar vibe.

Funny you mention that. We were talking about that very thing today.

I like the Packard and the Merc wagon, but I am a cheap skate. This is actually a good option.

it is actually cleaner and more elegant than the entire factory packard light...... all it takes is sheet metal, 1/4" rod and work....

I am just baffled as far as how to make the transition from round to pointed. The top I get, but the lower section is pretty bulbous.

The other thing is access to the light bulb itself and the lens mounting.

if you look at the pic I posted above, the rear fenders are extended quite a bit. make a lens surround out of 1/4" rod, cut away the existing tail lite area, and attach the rods to the car with sections of strait rod then fill in the rest with sheet metal.. need to make a backer for the bulbs that the lens attaches to and the whole works, lens and all goes in from the back side....

To me it looks like the cut the tail light tunnel and sort of pie cut it to lay out flat. This could go wrong on so many levels, if not thought out properly. This is why I do so much research and ask so many questions.

look at the red car just above and look at the car I posted, see where the side trim ends at the rear of the quarter panel?

This would actually help me, since the Pontiac trim is about 2 inches longer.

Does the size match up enough to do a 56 Oldsmobile tail light sunk into the lower and maybe a a set back chromed screen for the top?

  25. Don't know if this helps, but here's one I did years ago. Extended the 1/4 about 6". Buick lens and a marker lite up top.

  26. What about a 1955 or 56 Buick lens at the top wired for turn signals only, leaving the tail and brake light in the original light?

55 or 56 Olds lenses attached to 56 lights look good and are not hard to do.
