Definitely one badass little hotrod.

 

Shuffled things around in the shop to clear a space for the frame table, pulled everything off the frame and clamped it to the table.
Will start welding it up tomorrow.. hopefully.

Had to take a break on the car.
Working around the house after last progress post I managed to strain my back
enough to lay me up for a couple days,
as soon as I started to feel halfway human
I over did it again
and it put me down for a few more days.

Finally almost back to normal.
I got all the major welds done on the frame and bolted big things back in place.
'Plan to work on the rear engine/transmission mount cross member next,
then on to finish welding brackets on front and rear axles..

 

worked on that cross member
it'll get two bolts poking up and two bolts poking out at each end with nuts welded in frame walls to take 'em

I image your projects around the house are just as clean and neat. Lol. Good you got your sacroiliac back.

YA gotta remember that we are no longer "Incredible Hulks" as we get older. And have to take it a bit easier.

 

Nice job on the crossmember Paul. Glad to hear your 'back" is back. I've fought with those issues now for thirty years so I know it can be a bitch at times.

Pulled the front axle
and welded the four bar brackets
and the perch stops to it.
Reinstalled the axle,
adjusted the upper shock mounts a bit
to better align with the plane of the spring,
made a simple jig to check and align lower shock mounts,
and welded them to the perches.
And started to clean up and blend those together.

 

That front end set up should be in the gold standard for a T front axle set up. Perfectly done.

I am going to blatantly rip off your ideas sometime in the future.

Front suspension is done enough to move to the other end.
All major welding and grinding done until finish phase.
Going to try to get the rear suspension to same state of completion next.

That's a lot of leaves for the front spring of a T, but I guess when you're an Oldsmobile man you gotta keep them all in there. Looking good!

found a pair of NOS shocks the right length for the rear,
so I made some top brackets..
simple 1/4" plate tab with hole for shock stud
with 3/16" plate to spread weld load at frame

 

that won't do..
structurally sound but ugly and out of place..

 

broke the tacks and took them back to the bench.
cut the mounting studs off just below the face of steel plate
welded the shock side to the plate,
rosette welded the cut stud to the plate on the opposite side,
cut some 3/8" plate same shape as the tab,
beveled all edges and welded it to the tabs.
ground everything nice and rounded to get rid of the sharp edges.
and tacked them back in place.

that'll do

Nicely done! The rest of us mere mortals would have stopped at version 1. Version 2 is soooo much better.
