Have a question for an electical guru.
Im considering putting electric seats in my t-bucket build (figure here in Colorado they might help extend the driving season a month or so.
The seats I'm looking at are these units from Doorman< https://www.dormanproducts.com/p-8240-628-040.aspx . I'd be running 2 of them, passenger and myself.
Im wondering if my PC680 battery and 100 amp single wire alternator would handle it.

Simple electronics, no radio. perhaps an electric fan depending how things fit when reassembly happens

Might be more practical to run your mufflers up close below the floorboards. (1" below)

A friend had a '32 three window with mufflers close to floor, really warmed it up in there! (but it was all the time)

Installation instructions in the link call for a 10 amp fuse, so it'll draw less than that normally. If you don't leave them on too long without the engine running you should be fine.

Instead of building them into the seats , I bought a couple heated seat pads ( $15 h $20 ea) at one of the parts places . We only use them a few times a year , not being worn out when not in use , plug into power outlet .

hed, id wire them to only be on with key, i know better than to trust myself to remember to shut them off when i turn the key off.
2old, i get that idea as well, but was thinking built in so they are with me all the time. otherwise with my luck they would be at home when i wanted them in the car

  6. They don't pull that much power so I would say go for it, If you are recovering or building a new seat that's the time to incorporate the heated seat pads. HRP

  7. LMAO, steering wheel heater next ?

  8. like was said they will not draw that much.
I put them in every seat I reupholster, and highly recommend my customers to do also.

What I did to increase the driving time in my Deuce roadster is use a heated vest like the motorcycle guy's use. Plugs into any 12V lighter socket and comes with a thermostat. I wear it under a jacket and it really works.

Another option would be a heated vest like motorcyclists use. In reality I think a vest would do a better job of keeping you warm than just warming your backside.

My BMW motorcycle has heated grips and seat. My hands and butt get comfortable, sometime even too warm, but in between it gets rather chilly. The heated vest could be plugged in when needed by placing a power jack somewhere inconspicuous....maybe under the lip of the dash.

I see woodiewagon46 beat me to it.

  11. Seriously guys? My butt is the least of my problems. It's my nose and ears that freeze when driving in cold weather!

We have them in our Roadster and even here in So Cal they are nice for the chilly morning driving,
Don't remember who made them, off of eGay for $50.00. Small draw on power while driving, but you leave them on after parking for the weekend it will drain the battery. We put them under the upholstery, easy peasy.
Go for it, don't listen to the nay sayers, its your car and your butt. Also I have a situation with cancer meds and I cant control my body temp, so it was necessary. Will get a set for my 40 pickemup

I suffer occasionally from Raynaud's disease. My fingers turn white and get numb when my core temp drops. It was a real problem when I was riding a lot (worse when I used to smoke). I bought an electric vest and wired a plug in below the seat on my Harley. It made riding safe and more fun in the cold pacific northwest mornings and late evenings. What ever you have to do to enjoy the hobby, do it.

I saw Roadster at Deuce Days In Navarro Calif. several years ago that had some real nice round louvers that you could open and close right behind headers. He drove up from the Bay area that morning and said it really worked good. But you probably need a hood for that to work.

I'm not saying you shouldn't have them, especially if you have medical conditions, I'm saying that this is a traditional site and heated seats are not traditional. I have non- traditional parts on some of my rides, but I don't discuss them here. Carry on.

So if we have traditionally built roadsters and want to get more drive time, we shouldn't ask recommendations on how to do so? Really?

Woodiewagon46,I'm with you , the guy ask for some info on electrical draw , think it's pretty traditional to ask for help with a concern, I love traditional, have to really be looking to see that on off button. Don't think I ever while enjoying looking at a car I liked checked if it had electric seats. Think it would be kinda neat to show your close friends the upgrade .Gearhead ,your car your choice .think it's a plus .

Oh, I don't really care, just wasting time while I wait for a call from my broker. This thread wouldn't have made it past post #2 fifteen years ago. The mods can decide if it flies today, or not.

Ordered them. Switch wont be visible to the trad police. Only evidence will be my warm posterior when I exit the car. Thanks for the ELECTRICAL advice guys

  26. They are not traditional, but the switch can be kept out of sight and nobody else has to know. I put them in my 51 and use them more than I use the heater. It is a comfort decision, and if you are old enough that your blood circulation needs a little extra heat so that you will drive the car more, why not?

  27. if they come with the little round rocker switches, they fit nicely in the end of 3/4" EMT pipe and the can be run through it. I bent these and welded a mounting tab to the bottom so they could be out of sight but redly available. DSCF4210.JPG
