Bill Hines did the folding top mechanism for Steve Lininger's beautiful Shoebox Ford.

All these cars look great. The blue Shoebox is fantastic.
For me a Hot Rods first duty is function.
A Customs first duty is the look. Pleasing to its owner.
Nothing beats a Carson.
So this one will get one fairly soon after a few other details are sorted.

I have a 51 Merc four door I'm thinking of doing that to.

 

I love the functional top that Rob Ida did on this '50 Mercury convertible.

(it has a McCullough blown flathead, too.)

That's a beauty for sure! hey, I'm looking for the McCulloch mounting bracket for my Flathead, part number 37108-B or 37041-A any help would be greatly Appreciated.

 

I’m halfway through the build of my custom Packard and the Brain power required to engineer it to all fold away is immense. I used the roof mech from a Saab aero which has a pleasing flow.

When we started this build, Don and I agreed that it would be neat to do a folding top. After he chopped a real folding top, he changed his mind. Knowing how challenging it was to get this "Carson-type" top right, I think it was the right decision -- to build a folding top that had this exact shape would have been a real feat. From the rear:

Thanks, The guy that chopped & painted the car didn't get it right. I found a book at Borders on chopping a 41' convertible and re did it myself!
