The first speed shop I ever saw was a Struss Store in Mount Vernon or Mount Kisko New York back in the early 60's
I lived in Connecticut and that was where the guys told me to go and order the motor mounts I needed to put a 283 in a 1950 Chevrolet Business Coupe.
Next problem was at 14 years old I needed a ride to even get there!

  13. There was a Strauss store in Avon, Connecticut on route 44 in the late 50's, early 60's. I believe that was the business that was in Hartford, Connecticut, known as Kulak's on Albany Avenue before moving to Avon.

The first shot looks to be Duane Carter at Winchester. Carter was one of the greatest high banks drivers that ever raced and his son, Pancho, was just as great.

Is there any information on this shot, Rootie? It's a clean looking car complete with whitewall tires on the rear.

And since I see a betting window in the background I'm assuming this race is at a horse track. Could this be Freddie Agabashian at Bay Meadows in the early 1950s?

    Thanks for posting, Rootie!

All I have is that the pic of the #8 car was taken at Oakland and the drivers name was Menser or maybe Mesner (?) The champ car is indeed Freddie A. and the inner rail posts look like it's at Sacto. 1950

This pic reminds of the Confederate Railroad song, Trashy Women
