I’m asking for help or suggestions on my accelerator linkage. I recently replaced my intake manifold and carburetor to a 4 barrel Edelbrock 500cfm. The original accelerator linkage is set up for the passengers side and the Edelbrock Carburetor is set up for the drivers side. Any suggestions or is there a kit available for the switchover? You need to ask this on the main discussion forum instead of the intro section so more folks will see it..................Don.
I welded the little ball arm off a junk Holley 94 to one of the removable carb brackets on the Carter AFB in my '48 Mercury. Was able to use the original stock accelerator stuff.
I found the picture of it!! Sorry for the terrible quality. I didn’t want to put some cheese-dick Speedway pedal in the car so I modified stuff to work. I have driven the car with this set up and there are zero problems. Works just like old Henry wanted a Carter AFB equipped small block in his heap!
Back in the day it seemed that every swap of a SBC or a carb where there was crazy monkey motion linkage installed a 55-57 Chevrolet V8 firewall linkage. I used it a bunch. They were cheap in junk yards. And with one hole for the lever and 2 for 1/4” bolts or sheet metal screws( I never used them).
Or you could just weld an arm on the stock cross firewall linkage in line with the carb linkage on the drivers side.
Thanks El Scotty. So you put this linkage on the passengers side? Sent from my iPad using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
If you look close at the chain laying on the motor and at the link right at the throttle shaft the ball looks like it's laying on the chain link.
I went and took more pictures. Little bracket I welded the ball arm onto screws onto the primary throttle shaft. Stock throttle arm had to be bent over a hair to clear the distributor if I remember correctly.
Thank you. I am learning that as I try to fabricate the linkage. Sent from my iPad using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
If I were doing that job and had the O.E. carb on hand I'd try to make the one I build be the same length from throttle shaft to ball end. Then the movement under my Foot would be the same as it was in stock form with new unit.
