Here,s another photo of the very low Terry Scully Topolino Cabriolet . Also one of his earlier creations . Then a black hardtop coupe , maybe with a 6 cylinder Holden engine , wheels look like 4 stud Austin A40.

 

Some more. The Model A I had never seen before but was special here apparently as it ran a Hemi.
The second picture was after it had been sold without the Hemi and refitted with SBC.
It later caught fire when the owner had his cooler in the trunk and it moved and the handle shorted the poles of the battery. Apparently the fire was spotted and was put out with beer!!!


Hard to see but this is a 37 Coupe Ute

 

Particularly like the overhead pic of the black T with the tunnel rammed hemi, that was built by Graham(?) Bush from Sydneys northern suburbs, was a beautiful car and somewhat unusual for Oz in that it used a turtledeck instead of a pickup box, also unusual was that curved tubular 37/38 mopar front axle..........some great pics again........thanks, andyd

 

Yes it was Graham Bush.

 

Just a quick question for you guys in regards to the rear fenders that you used back in the day, that were cycle type. They are a bit wider than the spare wheel type used on the front. Where/what were they sourced from? This a great thread and a blast from the past for this expat, Cheers

 

From my memory those wider rear fenders were trailer accessory fenders and/or cut up/down stock fenders............and interestingly in the background of the Hemi Model A pic is Bob Dykes' Orange Model A Tourer and behind the tailgate of the red 40 Ute is what appears to be Bob Bowmans Metallic Green Model A Coupe, "Peppermint Pirate" in a pic with so much wet ground would seem to be in "mexico".......Victoria............lol.

 

Adding some more. The Model A 's are all from Brisbane area. The first one is the start of Les Winters
sedan delivery. Les now lives the dream in Texas for half the year and has a couple of cars that would be familiar to US rodders. The tourer shows how to carry your kids back in the 70's. The last picture is
a Nash bucket.

 

Those Aussies and Kiwis must not sleep well. Seems like a lot of them post in the middle of the night. And a lot of cars using radiators for bumpers – what's with that?

That 38 panel van was owned by Russell (Fred) Hicks and he was a plumber from Castlemaine. Couple of other Castlemaine rodders standing in front of it. That was at the Sultans swap meet in the Safeway carpark in Greensborough in Melbourne. Lots of good hot rod stuff changed hands there, was a real rodders swap with no socks, crockery or cheap Chinese tools.Was a long drive from Castlemaine with no freeways, ring roads and lots of traffic lights which being country boys we didn't appreciate LOL

Just trying for some humor. Was there for the first time early this year. Loved it. Can't say I'd go again – too hard for the hours in coach for these old bones . . . but if I didn't have to come back?!?

 

we are yearly visitors to USA and this years visit has been cancelled by Govt
someone told me we cannot fly to USA till 2023, SH T ???

 

Noel I think it will be before that. I am still planning a mid 2021 maybe with the Hudson again.

 

Some more random shots for today. The Narranderra Nats 75v was my first. The first one was 1973 at the same place. Some of the rodders who went there continued on and there has been a run there every year since at the same time as the ASRF Nationals that is held in different locations each year.

A lot of post '65 getting into this thread.

 

This thread is about the history of Australian Hot Rodding and I try to be careful and with most of the cars I try to maintain the "built in the traditional style" even if they maybe built later. That pertains to a lot of threads on the HAMB where much later built cars that have the "pre 65 traditional style" are still accepted here. Some of the threads that I see have shows that are much later but still represent what is intended here. Our Australian Hot Rod history is not as rich as in the USA and really only got started in the late 50's and early 60's. We also had to adapt to what was available here at the time and our raw material was less diverse than USA.
I think that with nearly 3000 views and a lot of positive comments that this thread is enjoyed by a lot of the HAMB community.

It's a good thing you pointed out that it was the 8th picture. Otherwise, I would have missed it completely!

 

That was owned by Joe Pring from Kippa Ring at the time of the photo I think. Don't know the history.

 

Just a couple today that should past muster. The last 3 of Lyn Arrowsmiths coupe are legendary
Australian Hot Rod material. He later chopped the coupe and painted it black.

I need to do a clean out of a lot of my old magazines. I don't think they are worth a lot. One idea I read about(on here maybe) was to take batches to retirement villages to put in the reading room for car interested guys to have something to read.

 

When i went to Ringwood Tech School ( Vic ) in 1967 the school library allways had fresh HotRod magazines from U.S.A. & Oz . ( Do schools still have a library )

 

When I moved to the US 30 years ago I donated my magazine collection (20 years plus of just about every automotive magazine from Oz and the US) to the National Motoring Museum in Birdwood, South Australia. They have finally been sorted and cataloged and are part of the museum's archives.

I love this thread. I haven't seen Ron Wickham's F100 for years, which brings up the question "Where are they all now?" I know a lot of our early hotrods got driven into the ground but we had some stunning customs that seem to be long gone.
