Looking for info and history on the Chariots Car Club/Carmel Ford Chassis Research Dragster. We recently figured out this dragster that my friend has owned for years is the old Chariots Car Club/Carmel Ford car from NY. Looking for history from it's Carmel Ford days and earlier. Does anyone know any history on this car? Builder/driver, years raced, events attended or more photos?

Welcome Mr Obvious! Like most old race cars this one appears to have been updated in that department. It also has newer body panels and it appears that the top frame rails have been replaced at some point but the push bar is an exact match to that in the original photos, as are the wheels. If not the Viscome car it is at least a twin to the original.
Also the Chassis Research cars were not as common on the east coast in that era with a lot of guys there running Lyndwood frames so the pool of possible suspects is somewhat smaller.

The place where you will most likely find the information on the dragster that you need in on the Dover Drag Strip site.
The dragster would have raced at Dover during the 60's since they were located so close to the track.
Dino would know more about the car since he was the announcer during those years it raced at Dover.
Dino runs the Dover Drag Strip site and has any photo's you need.

Drake Viscome occasionally posts on Classracer.com, might try a pm over there.

@1934coupe might be able to shade some light on the subject. He has quite a history at Dover.

    Check here as well https://doverdragstrip.com/

I can't help with any history of the dragster, however @loudbang posted this photo of the Vindicator Falcon sponsored by Carmel Ford. Photo taken at Dover Dragstrip.

I know I have posted maybe 2-3 different photos of it but it was awhile ago and probably had no name to go with it and not sure which thread I put them in. And I'm pretty sure they came from the dover site.

If you have a bunch of time hanging out at home you could start going through these name by name LOL.

Spot on, not that we weren’t 99.9% positive, this steering pic proves it all to me, still has the same tear in the rubber.
Figured out a little more over the last couple days. Sound like the car was a regular at Dover and originally built as a club car for the Rebel Rousers from Connecticut. It was then owned and raced by Patrick Creamer for almost 10 years before becoming the Carmel Ford car. Current owner talked to Patrick today, he claims it held a D/Dragster record and he took it Indy 65.

Correction, Dragster was called the Rebel Rouser and was a club car for the Chariots Car Club out of the Bronx, NY.

  16. HOLY SHIT!!! That might be my friend Pat Cramer, he ran a Flathead Dragster called Rebel Rouser at Dover in the early to mid 60s!

I will give him a call

Pat Cramer owned the Brewster, N. Y. Harley Davidson dealership. Bumped into him two years ago at the Mullin Collection in California, most unlikely spot we could have met in. Bob

It is Pat, the current owner talked to him yesterday. He’s supposed to be getting some pictures copied for him.

Carmel Ford must have had a high performance department, I don't think every dealership could sell a COBRA. Hard to believe today but a friend told me that back in the day a Carmel Ford salesman just about begged the guy to buy a COBRA for $6,000., he passed and regrets it today. Bob

  21. Yes, he was the youngest Harley Davidson in the country , he was buying all the other dealers old parts stock at the time.

None of the dealers wanted N.O.S. Knucklehead, Panhead or sheet metal tieing up room in the parts room.

    Who knew!!

One shop was William B. Johnsons in nearby Somers, N. Y first Harley Davidson dealership given to an African American, some time in the 1930's, he was featured in a TV show about the history of Harley, but the location of the shop got changed. My Dad bought a new 45ci Harley in 1937 in NYC and later sold it to Bill Johnson. When Pat bought out the shop after his passing there was a 1937 Harley 45 engine in the pile. I'll always wonder if that was the one in Dad's bike. Bob

  23. This is the second time someone on the H.A.M.B. was looking for the history of a car, and I was friends
    the original builder.

    What are the odds!

The first time was the Bud Hinmen roadster.
