Not sure why, but I did. And yes, my wife hates it.

It has a mustang rack and pinion but if I keep it, I will definitely need to install a stock or vintage style gasser front suspension.

Just curious if the Moomjeans truck was originally from Merced?

It has a power glide now but yeah a 4 speed would be cool!

Love the Thames even if it does have a Shivel-lay motor in it. Gotta admit......I did have a little vomit come up in my mouth when you said it had a powerglide. 4-speed/5-speed how bout a Lenco...anything but a slush-box!
Is it gonna be streetable?! (maybe 'some'?!)
Being from Calif. I'm sure it'll have a damn surf board stuck in it!

  14. That thing is super cool! All it needs is a 60's style paint job to take it over the finish line. I personally wouldn't sweat the r&p steering. It's too low for anyone to see.

Way cool, it made me smile to see that truck again. Dennis Moomjean was a local dirt track racer there in Merced, his dad James R. Moomjean was in used car sales there when I was a kid. The Reinero brothers still show up at FAMOSO at the hot rod reunion, thanks form the confirmation that the truck was from Merced.

    Very Cool.
Wash it and drive it just as it is..!
I guess changing the front suspension is ok, but...

It’s black with Halibrands, no doubt loud and fast, what’s not to like? Great find can’t wait to see what you do with it.
Let’s see, early Willys, late Willys, Thames... All you need now is an Austin for your gasser collection......

Cool little van. Interesting that the rear doors have been dispensed with. Curious as to how that's been done too as if i recall the rear door were made of aluminium, or maybe just on some of them?

I’d get it washed and cleaned up, polish the chrome and the wheels, and drive the wheels off of it! Only thing I might change would be go to a blower instead of the tunnel ram!

It looks like they installed a fiberglass rear area but I would LOVE to find a pair of doors and bring it back to original. Other than that, all steel.

First I want to say I have never heard of one of those in my life but it is bad ass. Second as much as I love this site some of the stuff drives me crazy. I love period correct builds for their appearance. I believe these cars should look a certain way. HOWEVER the point of a hot rod is to customize something in a affordable common man way. To throw away a working good designed front suspension to put back in a sub par suspension doesn't make sense. These guys building these cars in the 50s and 60s would have used a rack and pinion if they had access. it is under the truck and unless they get under and look they won't see it I'd leave it if done correctly. Make it look period but function modern I think.

Thats kind of what I'm thinking also. I like the thought of leaving it as is, plus, less work for me.
