Here is the hubcap on Ebay - it has a few more pics and of course every pic except spinner removed. Definitely the closest styling wise, but maybe a bit big? If the opening for the air valve is an inch I think that makes the center piece 5ish inches.

Thanks again, Mark. This is too big by 6 inches or so.

Here it is. At this angle it looks too deep and busy. To my eyes, the one on the car should be a simple chrome cross with a waffled gold background...or do you see something else? hubcap.jpg

I have..also vintage stoves, refrigerators and mid century stereo cabinets. The builder built custom cabin cruisers so I've been looking at old boat pics too. I kind of have a feeling it's automotive but maybe not since we haven't found it yet.

Barn Hunter, do you think maybe its custom? Like a center ring with a new insert and spears added? I have still been googling but just can't find anything that is a match, and really anything even close. I tried tractors, semis, buses, camping trailers. The insert blown up, if you picture it without the spears almost looks like a cap with an inset handle. I tried gas caps, no luck.

even if you don't figure it out, It wouldn't be difficult to make one. And ya never know , that may very well be what the original builder did mixing and matching parts to come up with what was there. sometimes that is the fun part. studying photos, figuring out how big and what size, then making a part to match. Also makes for a good story later, and sometimes a good story is worth its weight in gold.....

Someone once asked John Buttera "What are those wheels off of?" He replied "1978 Barstock". I would assume it was fabricated and just make one to look like the picture.

Wow, I've never heard of a Zunder. It does look close. Thanks for the effort you've put into the search. It does seem at this time that I'll probably have to fabricate something that looks close. Unfortunately so far, there hasn't been a really clear picture of that insert. I'm still hoping I'll find a clear pic in the little mags under "top 20 grille ideas" or something like that.

My guess is he made it from some trim and a center ring he liked, thus the pulled from the junkyard comment. Just not many emblems where the spears go across the center ring, just the olds and buicks that I saw. If it was pulled and not modified it had to of come from something foreign and not common (maybe not a Zunder) or it came from a fridge or juke box or carnival car or inside of a bus or something that doesn't have a picture on the internet.

That 56 Buick trunk emblem, if you used a smaller ring, straightened the spears and then put two vertical pieces in the ring it would be pretty damn close.

Good luck with it, I will keep googling from time to time.

I know, I KNOW the "S" is curvier, but I keep coming back to it, it's stuck. Gotta be something similar.

Saw this pic in a hubcap thread and it reminded me of the grille bar. Still not quite right but really close.

Maybe a 58 Rambler and he popped the center out and made his own? This still bugs me too, I can't look at a car pic without checking to see if it has a round emblem with spears.
